I used to drive my car to work everyday just to break it up (San Jose to Redwood City) but i bought another car for daily, now i used my evo once every 2 weeks and warmed it up mostly everyday. My car pretty much still brand new... If i can only put my car into a cabinet i would do it.....

San Jose to Palo Alto and back (about 25 miles each way), Monday to Friday... For now. Think I'll pick myself up one of these in a few months:

http://www.motorpasion.com/archivos/images/toyota_yaris_2006_1.jpg

Should be a more fuel-efficient daily driver (41 mpg city/51 mpg highway), and should be fun once I do some mild upgrades to the suspension and bolt on a turbo kit.

I use it to commute, but I live only 14 miles round trip from my work. We are now using the new Audi for longer trips including Tahoe.

I use my evo as a daily right now. not so bad going to work and back (about 15miles each way), every trip is fun.

I did do the longest trip yet in my evo this weekend, a 6hr drive to Orange County and back to visit my mum.

My evo is fine at 65-75 mph, but at 85mph+ at around 4k RPMS going down the 5 it sucked balls. So loud I can't even hear myself think. It's ok for 3-4hr drives to track events but 6hrs + it REALLY starts to wear on me.

Given, I do have one of the louder exhuasts out there, and no kitty.

All that said, I didn't build my car to do these kinda trips anyway so whatever. 8) But I did get 26mpg going down there. :)

I drive my evo 3-4 days per month on average. It has become a track specific tool. I'm even investing in the american collectors track day insurance policy for next year. Everyday driver is a pristine 96 Subaru Legacy GT Wagon:) FANTASTIC commuter car for 6,000.

Longest drive I've done in the Evo was 12 hours non-stop (except stopping for gas of course), from Seattle to San Jose. Averaged about 30 mpg thanks--higher in OR thanks to their 60 mph speed limit. :?

That was before the car had all the go-fast bits in it. More recently I drove 9 hours to a rally in AZ. And 6 hours a few times, going to Rim of the World Rally and Willow Springs Raceway. Again averaging about 30 mpg. The trick is to drive ass-slow, 65 mph or less. If you're not in a hurry it's a good way to save some money on gas. (Especially since if you have to stop it's at one of those stations on I-5 that totally extort you on gas prices.)

I drove my VW rally car to Thunderhill and back, now that was pretty uncomfortable, with no AC and windows that don't roll down, no sound insulation, thermal insulation on the firewall also gone (so my feet got pretty hot). The only way to get decent ventilation was to open the roof scoop/vent and then wind noise became about 3x louder. I took the car to the drive-thru at the Taco Bell in Willows and had to kill the engine so I could place my order, then kill it again so other people could place their orders.

I put about 300 miles on my Apex Silver '03 GSR a week.
On the weekend, it rests because I drive my wife's PRIUS everywhere.
I cannot get over how many people have the EVO as a track car.
I can barely afford supporting my family, much less a track car.
Just venting... :?
If and when I hit it, I will have a 3-car garage, and a hybrid or bio-diesel as a daily driver.
Until then, an EVO a day keeps the doctors away...

15,000 on mine since 02/12/05 new

6 mile round trip to work now...was 41 miles in the beginning hence the high mileage w/2 trips to Tahoe, 1 to Yosemite and some day drives along coast to/from Santa Cruz..

Throttle match/blip most downshifts, no launching ever. Only stand on my brakes in an emergency. She gets taken care of not rapped. Once a second car comes into play and warranty goes away let the beatings begin!

Daily driven with 60K... but I think I had the cleanest engine bay at the last meet, so she is well maintained.. it was spotless! I would say I put about 50-75 miles per day on the car.. but I tend to only drive it during the week and not that much on the weekend.

Actually.....other than driving it on the track, which I do often, and which gives me INCREDIBLE joy, I take it out for the occasional "canyon run"...other than this, I don't really enjoy driving it. It's not fun on a long trip, it's noisy, lumpy, bumpy, etc. I'm actually piining away for another 'nice" car, and can see getting a used M3 or Range Rover in a few years, say a certified pre-owned 2 year old car. then it would be the best of both worlds. I can honestly sayt hat if I did not track the Evo with plans to race it, I'd sell it. IT's a tool to me, but to each his own!:)

yes.. I can second that.. daily driving the evo has its moments, and how great they are, when you so happen to come across a stretch of road worthy of this awesome machine.. but in general driving a modded evo is pretty damn taxing on the driver.. for one thing, you need to be completely dialed into the car at all times.. forget about a nice relaxing drive.. sitting back and just going, the car takes all your attention. Whenever a girl is riding in the car they seem to be very paranoid.. I mean if you come across that perfect little banked turn while driving, how can you not offer them the experience of the awesome cornering ability of the car.. much to the dismay of the passenger. oh well.. I thought alot about getting a more refined car once the evo is paid off.. but i think im going to be turning my 2003 into a trailer queen and pick up a X as a daily driver.. doing my best to keep it stock.

I think the best part of my drive though is always sitting back at a long stop light and listening to the awesome exhaust not the car puts out at idle. ..to me its one of the best sounds i have ever heard and its coming out of my car :D shortly there after i become overwhelmed by the fumes but it was nice while it lasted.

  I thought I was the only one that thinks that. Especially with cams....it's music. I have to agree though....daily driving the EVO is pretty taxing on the body.

oh yes.. cams are a must for that one...helix 02 housing,dp,resonated test pipe help too... till the walbro decides to start whining... the sound should make most v8 owners jelous. I normally catch everyone at a stop light staring over at my car wondering how the the little riced out 4banger sounds like such a beast.

Thats just cause i ditched all the pointless bling that was in there before.. i.e. the clear cam gear cover with fidanza gears, perrin belts (which you cant see.. I was speaking of specifically when you look down inside the engine bay there is no dirt.. but the car is getting a red ralliart air filter with blitz mesh cover soon, some tein hood dampers, and the vented RRE plug cover so you can see the blinging ralliart spark plug wires
