View Full Version : how much power do you want out of your BPU evo?

Hey everyone,

i was just wondering how much power you guys would be satisfied with on your BPU evo on pump gas as measured by the gruppe-s dyno? As seen by our last dyno day, hitting or breaking the 300 whp mark on pump gas is neither common or easy.

this is how i think the gruppe-s dyno breaks down in dynojet numbers. keep in mind this is only a guess and could be optimistic by 5 or 10 hp.

GS MD Dynojet

330 400.00
320 387.88
310 375.76
300 363.64
290 351.52
280 339.39
270 327.27
260 315.15
250 303.03
240 290.91
230 278.79
220 266.67
210 254.55
200 242.42

I think gruppe-s should make a special prize for people who can break 300 whp on pump the next dyno day? Tom set it up!

1000 HP !

I think your Dynojet #s are scaled a bit high. 200whp on the Gruppe-S dyno probably doesn't not translate to 242 on a Dynojet.

Stock 03 EVOs typically dyno 205-210whp on Gruppe-s's dyno. Don't they hit around 235 on a Dynojet?

If the Gruppes dyno reads the same as shiv's DD, the conversion factor is to multiple the amount by 1.14.

you are probably right on that one. also i don't think that the conversion is perfectly linear.

my estimate is based upon talking with one guy at this weekends meet who made 330 on c16 on his TME that trapped 117-118. This trapspeed is inline with making about 400 whp on a dynjet.

I made 241 on the Gruppe-S MD dyno when I only had the Blitz SBC-iD and GReddy Type RS BOV boosting at about 20.3 psi.

This time it was 272 with a lot more stuff.
- HKS 272/272 cams
- Fidanza cam gears -4/-1.5
- Revolver valve springs/retainers
- ARP head studs
- Buschur TBE
- same boost controller and bov
- S-AFC II (zeroed out)

nice job congrats on winning the dyno challenge :D

Thanks! :) I didn't mean to post the number to show off. Just wanted to point out that:

241 would equal 291-ish and
272 would equal 329-ish

That scale looks "slightly" off.

We did do a same day test a while ago (more like 8 months ago).

We dyno'd a GT30r'd STI on pump gas that made 353whp on the AWD dynojet down the road, we drove it back let it cool for 30 mins and put it on the dyno here and it made 307whp.

Sad thing was that the car had a leaking Bov on both tests and ran crazy rich (AFR showed as 9:1 on the dynojet and 10.4:1 on the Mustang) when we fixed the bov the car ran at it's tuned AFR (11:1) and made 330whp.

If I can hit 260-270whp on Mike's dyno with an EcuTek tune and 3" TB exhaust I'll be good...for now...err until tax season.

I did 254whp awhile back on that dyno with just TBE, safc, MBC.

264whp and much better power and torque curves with all that and injectors and FP

270 whp now with ecuplus.

Is your evo a 05 ?

Yeah it's an '05. So far just a 3" CB exhaust, drop in filter, JDM MR BOV and an EcuTek flash.

I've read about the ECU plus. Sounds like a nice little tool. How's the learning curve?

so this is with out bottom end of engine right. turbo upgrades are legal?

I believe BPU is basic parts upgrade and I don't think a $4000 turbo kit qualfies for that.

what are basic parts? now be specific
does it mean all stock main parts like turbo, engine ect.?

oh

Well, for a guy who doesn't know how to bolt on his wheels (hmm now who could that be?), an air filter element change might not seem very basic.

BPU means to me...

intake, dp, exhaust, o2 housing, 10.5 housing, cams, cam gears, some sort of tune.

some people call it

tr 350
stage 1++
stage 4
