I just heard about this today when I was at my cousin's place for Thanksgiving. It would be interesting to see who gets selected for the video! There are only about 5 cars that interest me, though. Of course, almost all of them are Evos. :)

But the one I'm most interested in seeing make the casting call is the FactorX Racing NSX, which is my cousin's company. It's got an insane list of mods, and looks really nice:

And here's an image:

So have any of you guys seen the first American Touge? I guess the US cars are shipped to Japan and the Japanese drivers take them on the downhill?

yah... I've had the DVD when it first came out back in April or so. I've seen uncensored amateur clips that competed at the track and right then, I had to get the DVD once it's out.

Here's a trailer clip from the DVD.

well.. it's actually the other way around. Japanese drivers will fly over here to the states and run the car entrants at Buttonwillow Raceway. I believe Buttonwillow has been officially named the American Touge Test track for the US and since it's a racetrack, it almost beats the purpose the originality of how the Touge is run in Japan. Oh well... all good to me. Who knows, someday, the best American Touge car will go up against the Official Japan Touge monster which is the AMUSE S2000. :D

When they had the JGTC in LA, best motoring also did the american togue shoot since most of the crew were covering the jgtc race in LA.

The event is on 12/20, and hopefully I can get my wife to let me go. My cousin's NSX made the cut, so it would be cool to see how it does.

Well, I didn't go, and I wish I had. My cousin called me tonight to let me know that his NSX made it into the video. How did the rest of the cars do? I heard a couple of Evos blew up, and was really sad about that. :( Did anyone from NCE go and happen to capture any video?

I heard the Muellerized Evo blew it's engine.

From what I have heard, this event is purely an entertainment event and not a real race by any means.

Yeah, from most of the Japanese videos I've seen, this is the case. For all we know, the drivers may just not like Evos or something... I think the judging is pretty subjective.

However, even though it's not a real race, and there's no recognition or anything like that, it must be neat to go to the DVD store and pick up a BM DVD that has your car featured in it.

The judging, from what I have been told, is purely based upon how the car looks and what kind of car it is. IE: if you have a body kit and the car is somewhat exotic, you have a better chance of moving up in the event. Furthermore, some people who were there said judges did not even give subjective scores on certain cars because they didn't want them advancing, more or less suggesting that this event was choreographed just like pro wrestling.

From what I read, the Vishnu Evo was told they were advancing and then got denied at the last minute. What a total waste of time for them and every other competitor that worked hard to actually try to win this event.

That's f'd up. Totally not cool, when people are coming from all over to try to get into this video.

Yeah, I heard the same thing. That also pisses me off. Would have been cool to see that Evo in the video.

It's cracking me up that everyone is getting huffy about how this was run.

Is it a shock to you guys that it was run this way?

I mean, it is called...

American Touge 2

What where you expecting? :?

I agree with Bryan.

this event was of little to no significance outside of the PR that could be capitalized on by the respective tuners. No real, useful measure of the cars as either street or track automobiles....just a weird little excercise to celebrate a very obtuse utility of the cars.....but, that's entertainment!:)

It's a video made for entertainment, not a unbiased competition. Their objective is to put together a entertaining video that will sell, not compare numbers.

As long as it is fun to watch it's good enough for me. Seeing Tsuchiya and Orido's comments and joking back and forth is pretty funny as they poke fun at each other and the cars. :)

If only it was marketed as a purely subjective event to the competitors.

Wasn't it? If you've ever seen any of the hot version videos, the scores are all opinion based and not how fast they run. Looks, feel, fun to drive factor pretty much is the only scoring factor involved.

I was surprised at the number of cars they had scheduled to show. I always thought they just chose 5 cars and they all made it to the video. Guess they were hedging their bets and made sure there was enough cars in case some of them blew up.

I think it's just because they do the Japanese touge challenge all the time in Japan but come to the US to do it like once a year so they try to fit in more people at once.
