Where to purchase methanol locally?

For those who have alky injection, where do you get your methanol from? Do you get it locally or online?

I use denatured alcohol from home depot, instead of methanol. I don't know where to get the methanol

Most shops that sel race gas in cans can easily get you Methanol. Try a motorcycle/ motocross shop. Or try looking for a VP Racing Fuel dealer in your area. 8)

In addition to the 55 public methanol stations, more than 50 private stations are operated in California. Outside the state, there are 40 methanol fueling stations in 14 states and Canada.

The nation's first E85 (85 percent ethanol, 15 percent gasoline) fueling station opened in La Habra, Orange County, California in the spring of 1990. It is operated by the California Renewable Fuels Council, which is supporting ethanol research and demonstration programs in California. As a liquid fuel, ethanol is dispensed like methanol and gasoline. A card lock-out system can be used to prevent misfueling gasoline vehicles with ethanol.

running denatured is $$$$, isnt it like 15 a gallon? A 50/50 mix of meth and water will be much cheaper with not much loss in performance, perhaps even more since the water has a larger cooling effect on the intake charge

i read somewhere that it only kicks in when u hit a certain boost level... like 5 psi or so.. but can't u set it to not kick in until about 15-20 psi? That way you dont accidently use it for normal driving

lol..yes. most of the kits are triggered via boost. There is no need for it when you are out of boost. 5psi is low (below wastegate level). 10-12psi seems to be a common trigger point

Yes, on most alky systems you can control on and off points. *I have the SMC with progressive controller come on at 10 psi and go full spray at 15 psi. *I use about a 1/2 gallon of meth per tank of gas. *If, I stay under 10 psi no meth is used at all.

No. You can keep it in the engine bay, a lot of guys trunk mount the tank. The alky forum on nasioc is actually pretty decent

With running big boost that the meth allows, that is possible. 85tq is a bit skeptical but the HP isn't. I gained 20-30whp on a 100 octane tune with only 25psi and very very safe timing.

Perhaps because the cooling effect allows you to lean out the mixture throughout the whole rev range, more power earlier translates to spooling the turbo faster. I dont have any facts to back it up, but every curve I saw was shifted to the left. Perhaps this is just with STis, larger block/smaller turbo, they were hitting full boost at 3500rpm (21psi-22psi)

You should know thats quite a bit of boost and early for the VF39

That is because of the increased boost. On a evo, increasing the boost on the stock turbo actually moves the peak torque a little to the right since it has too spool more boost but overall the power curve is fuller and longer after torque peak which makes it "more power to the left"

hmm, you are correct about the boost. But from what Ive seen, on meth STis were hitting 22psi at the same time a stage 2 pro-tuned was hitting 18psi

Indeed. Your peak torque has shifted to the right, but over all power has shifted to the left, ie, you get to 196, 224,252, 280hp progressively earlier in the rev range
