I am getting these coilovers pretty soon, but cant decide what spring rates to get. I just want to have some opinions on what type of spring rates would be good for 60% daily driving and 40% track.

Thanks

I'm running 8/9kg on my Zeal V6's and they seem to be borderline okay on the street. My suspension is stiff enough to make my headlights flicker on the highway though. hehe.. cars in front of me must hate me. ;) I wouldn't be able to stand driving my EVO everyday though, especially over rough roads. I say 6/7kg would probably be more suited for a daily driven car.

I'm running 8k/10k on my Ohlins and they're fine for me on the street. I do think that the stiffer spring rates make the car a little trickier in the rain tho'.

Take a few rides in other peoples cars to get a feel for different rates. Whats "ok" for different people on the street can be very different. Also the ride will vary with the brand of coilover. My understanding is that Zeals have a different feel than Ohlins.

i dont speak kg...but you usually want somehting about 100 pounds stiffer in the rear. figure 400-500 in the front and 500-600 in the back. anything more and you're just abusing yourself for the sake of saying you have stiff ass suspension.

The conversion factors for kg/mm to lb/in are:

1 kg = 2.2 lb
1 in = 25.4 mm

8 kg/mm * 2.2 lb/kg * 25.4 mm/in = 448 lb/in

Here's a table:
kg/mm lb/in
6 335.28
7 391.16
8 447.04
9 502.92
10 558.8
11 614.68
12 670.56

...60% daily driving and 40% track.....

So when you get to 100,000 miles on your car, 40k of it will be on the track? That is impressive to say the least.

Useable spring rates will vary dependent on the type of Zeals you choose as well.
Each style has a preferred range that work best.
The street purpose Function XS are suited for 4-7kg.
Where as the multi purpose V6's can handle 5-9 kg.
and the more track oriented Function X typically use 9-14kg.

At WORKS, we only recommend rates that fall within Zeals suggested limits.
