If i'm buyin rims, I guess i'm going to go to 18s.

What is the most recommended size for 18s?

I've done some searches here, socalevo and evom and none have really produced anything other than most people say 235 cause thats what hyper rev suggested.

I'm looking for the stock sidewall look where the sidewall is almost perfectly vertical. It make sense to me that 245 is probably the choice for that since 235 on an 8in wheel is vertical, 8.5in wheel is .5inch wider and therefore around 12mm wider. a 245 would give around the same appearance.

the 245's are 1.5% diff in the speedo than stock, the 235's are 0.3%.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

depends on what width and offset the wheel is. in a perfect world i would vote

245 on 8" wide rim
255 on 8.5" wide rim
275 on 9" wide rim

why 18" rims?

let the guy get what he wants...but at least help him with his question.

b0yw0nder, you already have my opinion on this.

18s suck is my opinion.. weigh more plus ride quality is awful.. + higher chance of bending a rim and hitting a pothole = death. Its just adding alot of hastle to a car that already has plenty of things to watch out for.. 17x9s are the perfect evo wheel. 245/45/17s fit with no rubbing (even under extreme autox conditions) and provide a nice nice ride with taller gearing.. and the 255/40/17s deliver max performance.. choice is yours of course, but I suggest you gather some opinions from people who had dealt with both.

whaaaat  man who told you this, you gotta give it a try first before posting that   i had 18's before and autox with it and the ride quality was the same now with my 17's.now sidewall size and suspension set up can make a difference on ride quality not rim size.

go w/ 18s

i recommend 245/40/18 for street

255-275s for track

So, for anyone going through this, 245/40/18 is a LITTLE too skinny for 8.5. The tires are pulled inwards slightly. You don't get the perfectly vertical sidewall look of the stock tires. (These are Pirelli P-Zero Nero M & S)

However, it could just be the brand/type of tire and also the fact that these all season tires have tread markings all the way up and over the shoulder of the tire. (Meaning, it could just be a little bit of an optical illusion)

its an optical illusion   245 is about the ideal width for an 8.5 width rim.

Could definitely be the tire. I'm running toyo T1-R, and it's perfectly vertical on mine. I remember when I had Dunlop SP9000s on my old rims (for my prelude), those tires curved in, but then I switched to toyo T1-S and it was much more of a vertical sidewall than the Dunlops...so in my experience, brand \ tire design can play a big part in a 'perfectly vertical sidewall.'

i was running 235's if i remember correctly on my 8.5 it looked pretty janky but it works.
