That's funny that you get a tenth by going to the 18's and the 6spd auto is 3 tenths faster than the manual w/18's. I guess you're in constant boost. Thanks for sharing. I like it when you pick leather

The "automatic" is really a twin-clutch DSG transmission with paddle shifter I think, not a conventional automatic tranny.

I think it's a great looking car. At first I wasn't sure about it. I still really like the 20th anniv. Edition. Everyone who owns one keeps getting them mistaken for R32's and it pisses them off

That sounds really nice and high tech. It must bang gears real fast while staying in boost the whole time.

The technology is derived from Formula 1 I think. Sequential shifters in cars have been around in some street cars for a few years (e.g. the E46 M3 with SMG), even longer in F1 and WRC cars, but the twin-clutch system is new.

I'm confused.....aren't sequential trannys the same as tectronic or auto manuals???

nope. tips still use torque converter i believe. these new systems are actually using clutch plates.
bmw's smg was the first to get close but knowing a few owners has lead me to believe they still have a little way to go.

i've driven the new vw/audi dsg system and was totally impressed(even though i have said i would never own a car with no stick)no lag in shifting.
i thought i read that the vw system is like it's in two gears at once(don't quote me) so there is no downtime between shifts rev matched downshifts as well.
kinda cool to hear the car blip the throttle all by itself.

since the wife only drives auto this is definitely our next choice. an audi a3 though once we can agree on a color
