Hey Everyone,

I would like to get some opinion on these tires.

1. Bridgestone Potenza RE050A

2. Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07

These will be my track tires, because I am not yet ready to step up to Toyo's yet maybe the next set :D

If you could also recommend other tires with the same performance I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

The Advan Neovas are possibly the best street tire you can get... However, they cost more than just about anything else reasonable for mixed street/track use, including RA1s.

My recommendation would be the Hankook RS2 Z212s or the Falken Azenis RT615s. Both cost about half (!!!) the price of the Advan Neovas, and perform about 99% as well. If you're using the tires for track duty you'll be wearing them out very quickly, and you don't want to have to pay $1000 for a new set of tires several times a year.

Those tires cost way too much for the performance you get, espically for using them as track tires.

Check the tires Tam suggested. Can't beat the price/performance ratio.

Cool Thanks guys. I am not in competition, but how important is it to have 255 tire size instead of 235. Is worth spending the extra cash.

I only mentioned 255s because those are about the largest tires you can fit (a) on stock rims and (b) without rolling the fenders. If you're just looking to have fun on the track, any size between 235 and 255 will work fine. Wider is better, but the car will work just fine with 235s. I'm partial to 245/45-17s myself for street tires (and I've tracked and autocrossed them a few times).

Just out of curiosity, how do the Falkens Azenis RT615s compare to the factory yokohamas in terms of noise, harshness, and grip? I'm not looking for "cadillac comfort" here but Id like to keep the car bearable for the occasional long trips to socal.

Thanks

Grip is probably as good as if not better than the stock Yokohamas.

I've only ever driven the RT615s on my Miata; they have a lot of grip in the wet and don't hydroplane as easily as the RT215s did.

The sidewalls are super-stiff so you'll get a slightly harsher ride maybe--but that's mainly up to your shocks. One thing I did experience with the old RT215s in the Evo is that they're tremendously loud once worn down to about 4/32" tread. Don't know if the RT615s are the same way; I suspect so, due to the stiff sidewalls.

Tam, how are the Hankooks? I'm going to keep this in my head for future use :)

The Hankooks work well; I've autocrossed them a couple times when I was "in between" sets of race tires. Truth be told I've never compared them side-by-side with the RT615s; I think Grassroots Motorsports comparison of the tires is probably reasonable though; they found the Hankooks not quite as fast as the Falkens, possibly because of the large water channels in the latter.

I've driven the Hankooks at three track days with the Miata. They've held up very well (probably would last another three; the only reason I got the Falkens is that the 'Kooks are really for my VW rally car and are on heavy, CS-illegal "tarmac rally" rims) and proven to be extremely consistent once up to temperature. When cold they tend to lock up rather easily under braking (or maybe my braking skill just gets better as the day progresses ) and it takes a few laps for them to get warmed up. It's hard to compare the Falkens because the one time I tracked them (also in the Miata), it was a bit (and later a lot) wet. The Falkens worked very well in the wet though, very predictable under braking and cornering.

Cool, thanks for the info, Tam :)
