I've seen this car in person and it's one clean ride. I hope all is well. If only money were no object. With 5 days left it's already up to $57,100

Yes it should be DOT approved as it is converted by Motorex. Only a few of the lucky ones got a hand on those DOT approved Skylines tho...

Arrested?! No kidding.... any idea what's the story behind?

That said, this tiny piece of paper is what makes this R34 different from the rest of the gray market ones...

Motorex owner jailed, R32 and R34 legalization rescinded

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the owner of Motorex, Nanahoshi Hiroaki, 33, was arrested Thursday and booked into the L.A. County Jail. He is being held on $1 Million bail.

Booking Details

Hiroaki's initial appearance is scheduled for Wednesday of this week.

Hiroaki and Motorex came to the recognition of Nissan enthusiasts in the US as they became the only Registered Importer legally authorized to legalize Skylines for US use. As Motorex was able to comply with stringent US crash-testing requirements, they petitioned the courts to protect their interest in the Skyline market by "locking out" other would-be importers from the list of necessary modifications.

Not only did this give Motorex a corner on the market for legal Skylines, it also allowed them to command a premium price for each legalized car. Motorex-prepped Skylines can fetch upwards of $50,000. While making loads of money, Motorex also made loads of enemies.

According to sources, the lease to the Motorex facility has been overdue for months, and is now locked out by the landlord.

The US Department of Transportation has offically rescinded importation eligibility for both the R32 and R34 Skylines, only 96-98 R33 Skylines are still eligible to be imported.

Stay tuned - We'll keep you updated on the latest news as it becomes available.

here is the dot website

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/FAQ%20Site/pages/page10.html

You should note that the petition sought import eligibility for 1990-1999 Nissan GTS and GTR "Skyline" passenger cars. After granting the petition, the agency learned that the modifications identified in the petition were not sufficient to conform certain model and model year vehicles that were covered by the petition. The agency therefore partially rescinded its grant of eligibility, leaving only R33 model Nissan GTS and GTR passenger cars manufactured between January 1, 1996 and June 30, 1998 eligible for importation.

Their shop is down the street from where I live. Rob is a cool guy. He mentioned that he is expanding his shop to include more than just Z's and G's. He will be getting a dyno machine there as well. He mentioned that it will be set up for AWD. He said next time I needed parts installed to talk to him...

Rob is awesome. I've known him and Donna from NorCal Turbo Buick since 99 or 2000. Great people 8) Have you seen that 510 he built? (http://www.zonc.org/510_0205.html) I got to see him run at Sac and it has crazy top end as you can see from his trap speed.

Maybe to free up some $$$ for the shop expansion. I would be heart broken.

Yup, I saw it when my friend dropped by to get some parts. They were working on his Miata at the time as well. I actually used to live across the street from the shop. They would wave to me every morning. Even when I had the SRT-4... HAHA

damn...expensive. my buddy bought a R33 when i was still living in japan for $12,000 and this was around 1998-1999. Cant imagine the fees he paid to get it to texas but he had it for a little while.

What most people dont know is that in Japan the insurance goes up as the car gets older, most people would rather trade and get a new car rather than dealing with insurance. Some even junk cars only 2-3 years old in perfect or semi perfect condition because of insurance. and junkyard pay to have these cars on lot. Really good reason why you should go to a japanese junkyard if your a jdm whore.

back in 98 i was about to get a crx sir with only 62,000 km for $2000 only problem was the cv joints were phucked.

GOD I MISS JAPAN

Not really, my friend's RHD Integra had the same thing. Registered under the original JDM VIN, a CA-legal replacement VIN and all information matching the car's information. Given it is easier as the Integra does exist in the USA.

The real thing is all those stickers under the hood and in the door well.
