look at craigslist, autotrader and dsmtuners every day.

Also join the Bay area DSM list.

Why a '99?

97-99 are the best looking models... and for 1000 bux, you can get a 6bolt bottom end and it'll be just as good as a 1g 8)

Don't get me wrong I have a 1g and a 2g. I just don't happen to like the 98-99 because of the relocation of the charcoal canister. It's only a preference as it sits right where you would want to put an external oil cooler.
You can try looking at (I can't believe I am going to post this) www.dsmtuners.com and www.dsmtalk.com . If you don't mind buying a modified one you can try contacting the admins at DSMLink and see if you can browse the For Sale section of that board as well.

I had both a cheesewedge 1g and a nicer 2g. The build quality of 1g's was much better compared to the 2g. The 2g interior looked nicer, but did not feel nicer. It was very plasticy. The panel were pretty loose fitting.

IMO, the exterior of the 2g looks way sexier. ;) Here's my old 98 GSX w/ my 1g in the background.

Is it just you or are you simply not allowed to import them to Canada? (In which case, guess who's not moving back to Canada any time soon? 8))

If it's that you can't import it, maybe you can register it in a nearby state? (Or get an STi; those seem to be popular up there.)

Agreed, my 2g felt like it was built by playmobile. The 1g's are built MUCH better and just feel more solid overall.

I've always had a softspot for the pop-up headlight 1G's. My old 90 at Laguna:

vtluu: evo is inadmissible to canada. does not meet department of transportation regulations in canada. as for registering in a nearby state, your insurance is not valid if you do so.....trust me, i've looked into every angle to get it into canada.

as for interior...etc...won't matter, this is going to be a "fun to drive" car....likely it will have no interior in the end. just a couple of buckets in the front.

i'm not really down with the cheese wedgers...probably because they were so prominent where I grew up. i agree they are more potent as drag racers....but don't really dig the styles.

Well, that's all the reason I need not to move back there. 8) (So, my car is not road-legal in Canada. Oh the ironing!)

Good luck with the move. As I said, look into an STi, with the right mods they can be as good as an Evo. Almost. ;)

i'll tell you that the stock gsx feels absolutely numb compared to a stock evo.

The gsx that i own has almost every suspension mod that you can get. I'm running JICs on it, had bushings done, and every RRE brace you can think of to stiffen the frame, and it handles descently. I think a smaller steering wheel will definatly get more response from it.

The viscous rear LSD and the lack of a front one makes it feel more like my old 03 evo. It understeered quite a bit. After a corner balance and a tune from a local shop, the car felt a lot more neutral.

However, power is definately not lacking.

here's the gt30'ed gsx:

Here's a 95 GSX with a 6 bolt swap (http://stockton.craigslist.org/car/145527131.html) for $5,600 in Stockton. There aren't any pics on this one.

Here's another but it's in San Diego.

Good luck on your hunt. I forgot how the Evo IX wheels resemble the GSX wheels

Same here. The smaller wheel helps but the steering rack on the Evo is SOooooo nice.
