View Full Version : Sunday 5/21/06 All Clubs Meet & Drive

I notice a lack of group drives here on NCE. Maybe it's due to high gas prices, but I was wondering if anyone is down to do a group drive.

Next Sunday, 5/21/06 meet up at Starbucks De Anza Blvd. & Steven's Creek Blvd. (corner of Chevron Station). Address is

Starbucks Cupertino
20520A Stevens Creek Blvd
Cupertino CA, 95014
Meet at 11 A.M. Leave around 11:30 A.M.

Then we are going to hit up Highway 9 Big Basin Way go to the 4 Corners of 9 & Skyline (35). Left onto Skyline Blvd 35. Then turn left onto Bear Creek Rd. Remain on Bear Creek Rd. until we hit Highway 17 North towards San Jose. This loop should only take about 45 minutes total. Afterwards I was thinking of grabbing lunch at BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse on De Anza Blvd. & Highway 280. That way after lunch everybody everybody has access to the freeway to get home.

This is going to be a very friendly and chill drive, which means everyone goes at the speed they're comfortable with. No reckless driving since there are usually a lot of cyclists going up 9 and deers on 35. Just a nice little cruise, with a shared spirit & sense of camaraderie.

So Post below your Name or SN if you are up for the Drive.

Sunday 5/21/06 Group Drive:

2.

8.
9.
10.

And remember to come with your gas tanks filled.

I'm going to just test the waters with this post, but if it's a good turn out, hopefully this can become more of a regular event.

I notice a lack of group drives here on NCE. Maybe it's due to high gas prices, but I was wondering if anyone is down to do a group drive. Me and a couple of my friends (STI owners unfortunately) are planning a morning drive next week Friday 5/19 around noon. The meet up spot will be Starbucks Coffee on De Anza Blvd. and Stevens Creek Blvd. (the corner with the Chevron Station). Meet there, drink some coffee, talk a little bit. Then we are going to hit up 9 towards the 4 Corners, Left onto Skyline 35, Left onto Bear Creek Rd, and then onto 17 North towards 280 where everyone can go their seperate ways. Maybe Go-Karting after?

This is going to be a very friendly and chill ride, which means everyone goes at the speed they're comfortable with. No reckless driving since there are usually a lot of cyclists going up 9 and deers on 35. Just a nice little cruise, with a shared spirit & sense of camaraderie.

I'm going to just test the waters with this post, but if it's a good turn out, hopefully this can become more of a regular event. So far it's just me and two of my buddies. If anyone else is down to show up next Friday please post a reply.

tranman85
05-17-2006, 10:07 PM
our original plan is to cruise up 9 and skyline. but we can definately discuss it before we leave in case everybody decides on something else. course should consist of nice windy roads for first portion then followed by a sharper twistier second half. full tank probably wouldn't be necessary 3/4 to half full should be fine.

i was thinking of also posting up on my350z, s2k-i, and i-club forums to get more cars to come out and drive with us, that way it be a nice little fun sports car enthusiast drive. what do you guys think? i doubt it be a huge turn out since it would be most likely last minute, so shouldn't have to worry much about cops. i always see huge car meets up 9 anyways on the weekends or bike meets as well.

tranman85
05-20-2006, 09:15 AM
so i ended up posting it on those forums. and so far we got an sti, wrx wagon, 350z, and two s2ks to join. so definately should be fun having other kinds of cars meet us up.

I may check it out, I was planning on grabbing some dim sum in the morning...I will see what time I get out.*

Only concern being the weather and attracting too much "negative attention"

Just to throw something out there, I heard there is an Auto-x at De Anza College on Sun. also. After the cruise, it may be worthwhile to check it out.

tranman85
05-20-2006, 07:05 PM
that is true, de anza auto x is tomorow. sweet we can catch it. weather was supposed to shower today with thunder, but ended up being just gloomy, so i have a positive out look on tomorow's supposed light shower.

if it's light rain we might go a different & safer route 9-skyline-page mill-280, if it's pouring a few of us are still going to go. but everyone's welcomed to meet up even if they don't plan to drive. we can just hang out and talk and then reschedule a big group drive on another day if weather doesn't permit tomorow.

pm me for any questions.

yea I'm making breakfast right now getting ready to go out to the meet. It rained pretty good last night but it looks like its dried up now. the hill will still have some wet spots though. this is going to be cool I havn't drove my evo in a long time. I used to go out every sat night and just roll around but its too much of a hassel to deal with the cops. I feel like the old guys that cruise their classics every sat near my work. every sat theres a big meet of either classics or a model A group that meets/shows in the parking lot of the rite aid next to my work. then they go out and cruise on a sunny day. the model a guys are cool they usually dress like they are from the 20's.

Thats an awesome concept ^ A breakfast/brunch (Denny's) or coffee (Starbucks) get together, a little show and shine out in the parking lot and continue on to a scenic cruise up skyline! A little bit of everything in one day.

anyone out there have an update4 on the sti we lost? yes unfortunatly an 06 STI started up with us but never made it to skyline..... hope he's ok one of the back of the pack said he had hit a tree after going down the embankment from the road way. he said there were already people calling 911 so we didn't go back, would've confused things and made too much trafic for emergency vehicles, pluss I don't want to talk to the CHP .. I mean, after all I didn't crash my car and I was going faster than everybody else in the pack.(no offence to the trajic loss for that guy his car was beautifull) good thing for air bags, don't the subaru comercials say that AWD save air bags? lol (sorry couldn't help that one)

It's because of these incidents I always shy away from group drives. Just look at the popular doc wong drives. There's always someone pushing it beyond their limit and messes up on a public road. Shiny side up, guys...

05-21-2006, 10:55 PM
ok maybe I mean't how ironic to have a suby comercial about awd keeps you from crashing?
what ev maybe it was the stock potenza's in the rain that made him loose control, maybe something ran out into the road. he was way behind the second group that got seperated from us by an SUV. so that group was going slow, we were going about 55 max in little sperts. way safe for the conditions plus there was the ocational bike rider too. I think he just was feeling his car out and to make matters worse IN THE RAIN I really want to know what happend I don't understand what went wrong

well that is 2 cars in 24 hours that hwy 9 has clamined. This just goes to show why you should allways drive within your means no matter how every one eles is driving. and I will be the first one to admit that I am allways in the back and cruzin slow. it is fun no matter the speed.

+1, even everyone is ahead of you, you should never push yourself outside your limits. we always have little stops where everyone can catch up and regroup. especially when it was drizzling today, you should risk your life, other people's lives, and your car by driving outside your limits.

SilverStreak

I couldn't make it as well. Maybe next time.

Re the crash:
That really does stink...I hope everyone was ok. If anyone gets further details, please post them up.

Re the suby commercial:
Granted it is "sort of" ironic. But everyone both Suby and Evo owners alike have always preached that AWD does not make the car invincible.

push it on a track not on a sunday drive. people die on nine all the time. one of my good suby buddies Craig was serioursly injured in a crash and he was the passenger! A SJ street biker lost his life to a tree last year. shoot a suby rolled down off the road at the Mt. Hammilton meet w/ i-clube last year. Its happens and most of the time its a driver pushing his limits, or his experience. every one else was safe. in fact I was the only one with a hot pace but I took the lead so as not too push the guy in front of me. this little misshap should not keep poeple from turning out. when we rolled though Redwood City you should've seen the heads turn, and cruisn' the freeway back was tight too. then we ended it by watching an Auto-x event on a wet surface for free.....shit that was a perfect sunday for me

alright guys, so i just got off the phone with my friend. who has gotten contact from Andrew (06 aspen white sti) he is ok, car is totalled, but he and his passenger are not hurt. i totaly agree with mitsuman, this should not scare off people, because face it, as long as you drive within your skill level and level of comfort, it would minimize the risks. i have the pictures, but i do not know how to post them up, hahaha newb status. can someone tell me? and i am planning out another group drive right now, most likely early june, and this time we'll have it more organized as in who normally wants a higher pace and who wants a slower one. so that all the fast people go ahead and just pull aside every now and then into a lot and wait for everyone to regroup and then head on out again. this way it doesn't really pressure anyone to speed because they feel like they're slowing down the group.

SilverStreak
05-21-2006, 11:56 PM
good to hear that they're alright. too bad about the car.

Can't wait to see the pics...have no idea how post them...noob too.

Mitsuman-how was the auto-x. I live by De Anza...normally I can hear the cars and the announcer talking from my backyard. I didn't hear anything today, was the event cut short due to the weather?

tranman85
05-22-2006, 01:11 AM
we all went to the da auto-x after, it was fun. lotta water on the course so a lot of cars lost control but it was all fun. saw some pretty nice cars and good drivers.

I met a hot chick from Salinas that was driving a red MR. too bad she was with a guy(and my GF was there) I think she really digged me :P.
