ok guys i have been talking* to rodger with the perfect line and i will need 20 guys who wants to run their car, keep in mind this is not a timed event so everyone can join... there will be some rule that we will need to adhear to, to make this a safe event and for first timers. we are thinking of make this event a Norcalevo meet maybe 14? so we want a big turn out, i know its during the week but it will be worth the day off.. we will be inviting tuners to the event so you will see your favorite tuners running their cars out there and maybe they might let you ride onboard to see what their products can do for your car.* i will keep you guys posted on which tuners will be there and also who much it will be to track your car. also we will be inviting other forums to this event so it will be fun to see other forums members and their cars run with the evos. lets get on the list so we can make this MEET 14.. there will be two list, one for the guys who will be tracking and guys who will be attending the meet... and yes will be doing the raffles out there too so dont miss out..original post (http://www.norcalevo.net/forum/index.php/topic,10113.0.html)

Location: Thunder Hill
When: July 6th
Pricing: $180 - $200 depending on how many guys will attend..but keep in mind, the more who goes the less you'll pay
Helmet requirements: M or SA needs to be 95, 2000, or 2005...* So anything within the last 10 years basically...
this is where you need to go to register.... http://www.theperfectline.com/

yeah guys the vendors will allow passengers in their cars so that you can experience what they have to offer with the way they tune the cars.. instead of wondering how a certain suspension will work on your car why dont you just get onboard a car with one and see for yourself or what a difference a big turbo can make on a track. so sign up and also have your cars suspension tuned by one of the vendors.

Hi all. Rodger here from The Perfect Line.

Let me go over some of the specifics for the July 6th, 2006 Track Day for you. Hopefully I can answer most of your questions you have, but if not, feel free to post here or to email me directly with any comments or questions you have.

It will be great to have all of you EVO guys there, your enthusiasm is awesome, and I think this is going to be a great event. Anyone that is going MUST visit the web page (http://www.theperfectline.com/index_event.html) and follow the Registration link, which directs you to MotorSportReg. Until you actually sign up there and pay for the event the slot that would otherwise be for your car is open to anyone, and the only way to insure your attendance is to sign up via the web site.

The event page at The Perfect Line Web site has just about ALL the information you will need for this event, such as;

-Rules and Regs
-Schedule
-Tech Inspection Form
-Passing Rules
-Track Information
-Most everything else you need!

There was some question about the "class" I recommend first timers attend. My plan is to hold (2) classes the week before the track day for first timers, as well as those interested in in a refresher course. I have not finalized where these classes will be (as in what city), as I want to get a better idea for exactly where all the first timers live, and then I will plan the classes to hopefully accomodate most if not all of the drivers. This class is not mandatory, but I HIGHLY recommend it, as there is a lot of information to take in, and trying to absorb it all in a 30 minute classroom session at the track an hour before your first time driving on track is a bit much. Having an nice 75-90 minute class a week prior to your event will allow you to hopefully soak up some of what you learn, and give you some time to visit the forums at www.justracing.com that will be setup to discuss much of what we cover at the class. Also note that this class will have a nonimal fee, and is open to anyone interested in the basics of track driving!

If you have ANY questions, please let me know!

MarkSAE

I just signed up for the event through the website yesterday. Should be a fun track day w/ all the evos out there!

I would recommend all the first timers to take some type of class like Rodger is offering prior to being on track. I remember how overwhelmed w/ information I felt during my first track day.

ThePerfectLine

I should also mention that there WILL be vendors on hand, and there WILL be a raffle at lunch time!

We are still working with the vendors to determine exactly who will be showing up, but so far it looks like between 4 and 5 vendors/tuning shops will be on hand.

Most will have their shop/race cars there and will be giving rides and showing off their driving skills. They will also be offering suspension tuning at the track, and of course will be donating goods and services for the raffle!

The vendors will NOT have their own run group.... and they will NOT be racing, but WILL be following the rules of whatever group they are running in. This has been made very clear to them, that this is not a race, and that they are under the same restrictions as any other driver. If anybody, vendor, instructor, driver, whatever is driving recklessly, they will be black flagged immediately and brought in to talk with me. If they persist in the activity more immediate and sever action will be taken. The beauty of running an event is that I have final say as to who is allowed and NOT allowed on track.

EVO442... I dont think there is going to be much room to drive in multiple groups. I am planning on having 20 or so cars per run group, so there probaly wont be any room. But as the day progresses, and if it is say 3:00pm, and there are only 4 B's on track, I will open it up for the A's, as long as they treat the B's with respect, and follow the B group passing rules.

Also, I am not sure what you mean by add you to the list. That list is kind of a prelimenary list, and you need to go to www.theperfectline.com/index_event.html and process your signup.

I just want to remind people, that there is no "list". If you want to drive you MUST sign up for the event. If you put your name on the list thats been going around and then show up at the track, you will NOT be allowed to drive.

You have to go to http://tinyurl.com/r2hze and create an account, during the account creation process you will be joining the Perfect Line club (there is no real club, its just the wording MotorSportReg uses). Then you need to finish by actually signing up for the event and prepaying for it.

Just to let people know, you can NOT pay at the track, you must sign up online, and prepay for the event, or else you can;t drive.

The Del Sol has been my dedicated track car for 2 years now. It was much quicker when it had the 1.8L type R motor in there, its back to the 1.6L for now. The car is still a blast to drive and VERY cheap. Bryan is right, it puts as much torque to the gound that is needed to torque the lugnuts. :P

I am assuming you mean a classroom session prior to the event. There will be one, but I am waiting for all the beginners to sign up, so I can see where everyone lives, and then reserve a rec center room in the appropriate city.

It will be the week before the event, and if I have a huge array of locations where people live I will most likely have 2 classes to accomodate most people.

The key right now is that we need to get the "C" group filled with signups so that I can finalize the locations and dates for the classes!

So tell your friends to sign up sooner rather than later..

I'll be with NCRC at TH for both days that weekend (gonna get some coaching to get into wheel-to-wheel racing with ARC), and also have another invitation-only track day at TH that month, so that's quite enough TH for me in one month. Have fun though. 8)

All of us guys running the event will be staying at the Pheasant as well. All you guys will be able to pre-reg Wednesday night so that you dont have to bother with it in the morning as well. Except an email about a week before the event with information about exactly where and what times we will do Wednesday night pre-reg.

Dont forget guys, you have to go and sign up for the event at www.theperfectline.com (follow the link to MotorSportReg and go through the necessary steps). If you dont and you decide to just show up at T Hill you unfortunately wont be allowed to drive..

Bummer dude... If you get it back in time shoot me an email. I have a feeling I wont max out this event. There are lots of evo's, but no other brand has committed in the same fashion.

I of course would never condone this ;) but I have heard of people renting;

HERTZ
FUN
RENTALS

It is supposedly a DAMN fun way to do a track event, and after some off the cuff calculations it looks like it costs much less to rent a 350z from Hertz for the day than it does to run my car! Between brake fluid changes, tires, brake pads, oil swap, air filters, etc. It is cheaper to simply to spend 75-100 a day to rent a little racer, and then return with some tire and brake wear.

DAMN, now the only cool cars they have listed are the Miata (which I just rented for $54 for a day, unlim miles, and it only had 42 miles on it when I picked it up!), and the Mustang GT-H. Actually I think this is set for LAX. You have to check to see what FUN rentals they have in SFO and SAC..

Yeah I know. But at least the miata and the 350z have a good steptronic. The Miata has a 6 speed auto, and will stay in gear until you hit the limiter or until you pop the stick or one of the wheel mounted shift levers.

Its actually pretty cool. Yeah there is a little lag time, but not that bad, and I imagine the 350z is even better.

rental boxster backed it into a tire wall at sears a couple years back with the audi group.
some people mentioned that the rental company also had data aquisition to check speeds.
if you came up over 100mph then insurance is void. oops. :)
i can't verify if that last bit is completely true or not and never heard what the outcome was for the driver, moneywise.

All the guys running the event will be staying at the Amerihost. Conversely, if you arrive in Willows before 9pm you can pre-register by going to one of our rooms.

When I send out the reminder email next monday it will have my Cel phone number listed so that you can call and find out what room we are staying in (The message on my voice mail will have the room number listed for pre-reg just in case I cant pick up)

I was hoping to work out some better rate, but they basically offer regular rates and T Hill rates, and thats it.. Oh well. If someone gets a better rate, post it up here so the rest of us can call back and wreap the benefits!

Turbo's water feed hose was partially blocked. Centersection on turbo has been overheating and needs to be rebuilt. I thin ki can get it functional for the meet and then have it rebuilt before the GG Lotus meet at the end of the month. I have no idea if they have room still since I have been occupied otherwise. I reallywant to do both as the lotus meet at Th is reverse.

Great event!* Lotsa track time, lotsa room on track, great organization.* Props to Rodger and crew!

Sorry to hear about everyone's mechanical problems.

This was my first track day w/ my new brake setup.* Racing brake 2-pc front rotors, Hawk DTC-60 front and rear pads.* These pads were very confidence inspiring.* I was able to brake a lot harder and a lot deeper.* It was nice having 100% confidence in my brakes for a change.* Both my rear calipers are now brownbos, so now my fronts and backs are matching.* :)* So I guess the rear brakes do do some work.

Thanks to Kirk@WORKS for taking me out for a few laps.* It was very beneficial to me.* I was able to nail the turn-in point for turn 8 every single time after seeing you do it.* I was also slowly starting to figure out how to go over the top in Turn 5.

I think I got the award for having the most grasshoppers stuck on my grill today.* This was after only ONE session.* Since I was the first car out on the first session, I helped "clean up" the track for everybody.* :)

Nice to meet those of you I hadn't met in person before. Always nice to put a face with the name. A BIG personal thanks to MarkSae for sweeping all the bugs off the track for the rest of us :D

Sorry to see all the odd damage that occured to fellow board members today. Alot of "freak" failures. :? Apparently I am the jinx. Who would have ever thought that all the Evo's would break and the lone 2g would come through unscathed  Well that's not entirely true. I went to the meet with a damaged turbo and proceded to damage it more. It became a bit of a light switch. Nothing much boost wise below 4k rpm and then 25lbs by ~4500 rpm  Also got a few new noises out of the front end today. I had planned to go through and rebuild the wear items already. It is time for new front hubs and a few new bushings anyways.

I'm one of the unfortunate 3 that had car troubles. I had an oil leak that resulted from a faulty oil feed line going to the turbo. We caught the leak right after session one, when I saw faint smoke rising out of the engine bay. I suppose I am lucky as it could have been a lot worse if the oil had caught on fire, which isn't totally out of the question in this type of scenario.

Its too bad because I didn't really get a chance to learn the track, but I'm looking forward to the next time out.

No more premade oil lines for me. Back to assembling them by hand. This is the first time I've ever seen SS braided line fail like that. After conversing with another fellow EVO owner, I find out that this isn't an uncommon problem and has happened before.

Props to all you guys in group B for being safe and courteous out there! Some of you guys have very good lines and I learned something new from you everytime I went out!

I am grateful that my Evo made it without any major mechanical issues. My 5th gear syncro did start grinding in the 3rd session, so I just tried to stay on 4th gear most of the time. Devin suggested that I change to Syncromesh and hopefully the problem goes away.

I have some videos (although low quality compare to Terry's and Bryan's) of the runs. I will post them up after some editing... if I can get a hold of an editing software. :)

this was by far the greatest meet we've had, i think. it was my first time driving my car to the track and it was an experience. my intsructor was really good in giving technical pointers and driving techniques during our sessions. i definitely need some more practice to improve my lines and my turns smoother. what scares me is being hooked on this hobby which is not bank account friendly.

anyways, big ups to the organizers of this event and nice meeting crctlt, stormtrooper, earlyapex, evo grim and biged925.

yeah, my venerable evo 8 broke down out there yesterday too. Upshifted into 4th going down the back straight, and all of a sudden, no power, no boost, (despite plenty of revs) and this nasty whirring/whining sound. Sounds like one of the wheels in my white rabbit. Crossing my fingers that forced performance will take care of me. Turbo's pretty new. Works will be talking to them for me today or next week. I was bummed because Pete (works) was going to datalog/fine tune my P2 flash at the track today. Hard to do with a broken turbo.

Ah well I guess I'll be out of commission for a while. 4th gear synchro is going, and my stock clutch has 50,000 miles and numerous track events on it. While the turbo is being fixed I think I'll have Sheppard Racing work their magic with my tranny and add a quaiffe and clutch as well. Hopefully I'll be up and running soon since my evo is also my daily driver. Hmm... maybe Wilson will lend me an evo?

But, until my turbo broke I was having a great time! Had a blast in my first 2 sessions, (car broke in the 3rd). Kudos to Rodger and Will for putting on a great event. Also enjoyed seeing so many evo owners out there, many of the same old faces and many new ones as well. One of the porsche drivers out there asked me why he always sees so many evos at the track but no sti's... :-)

Who would have ever thought that all the Evo's would break and the lone 2g would come through unscathed

Hey dont forget about the beater! I was very pleased with the new power and susp. set up and zero problems. I seiously was never over 40% throttle.

Bryan tell the story about when Donna, my instructor saw my car.

Thanks to all the participants for keeping it clean and maximizing tracktime! Seriously - the red mist was kept in check and we only had a few incidents.

Shame about the myriad mechanical damage. I contributed in a small way - my stock diverter valve really started to flutter. Time to replace it with JDM one I bought months ago from Cal.

I wish I had more time to come over to the shady spot and hang out but my only free time was used to glean some info from the Formula Continental's "pit crew." =) One fun bit: a well driven Formula Continental can turn 1:45s at Thill with 160hp!

Thanks also to our instructors (Bryan, Mike, et al) for taking time out to help some track newbies get started.

Thanks everyone for making yesterday an amazing day. We had a great turnout, LOTS and LOTS of evo's and while the evo's did not shine in the 'reliability' category yesterday, they more then made up for it in proving how fast a $30k car can be!

WORKS and Speed Element also deserve a thanks for being there and for offering everything they did, rides, working on cars, donating raffle prizes. I also want to thank everyone that stepped up and instructed, 2 of which (David the red m coupe, and Dennis in the Black Mini Cooper) driving all the way down from Portland to do so! And Dito at Gotbluemilk.com. He took some awesome photos of everyone and donated some prints to the raffle as well. I highly recommened checking out his work.

Once again, thanks. Look for our next event sometime in September, once we finalize a date and location You can be rest assured I'll be posting here!

p.s. We ended up having 43 registered drivers and cars (which includes the instructors). I believe there were about 25 EVOs that were driving, the most surprisingly quick car (IMO) was Dennis in his almost stock and street-tired Mini Cooper S and our most exotic car was a Van Diemen Formula Continental that was seriously fun to watch around the turns!

Hello everyone, it was a blast being back on the track after a 16 months hiatus from Thill.

Big Thanks to The Perfect Line, Mike aka Drftr8 for setting up this awesome trackday!

SpeedElement and Works for tracksupport and raffle goodies!

Perhaps the best freebie is from Devin, Cal, Andy and Mike @ SpeedElement for getting a free lunch for everyone who did not bring anything to eat! 8)

It sure was nice seeing everyone again, and some new members.
21 evos came, both instructors and members.

First few sessions was a whole new learning experience, and seattime with Mike and Percy really helps improve my turn-in, apex and turn out points, with a much better racing line. It sure was alot harder than i remembered.
Percy was off the hook driving his race car, and it feels so well balanced, although it must have been me throwing myself around, as he claims his time improves by 2 secs with me seating in the car !
Mike was just as awesome with his stock evo, with the advans howling and begging for mercy, kinda makes me wished i should have use my E 9 instead and have been just as fast and not have to drive home with hot air blasting into my face at over 100 degs! :x
Bryan was going to give me a ride-along and his damn transmission gave out! :(
Thank god for Marshall getting Bryan home. 8)
One thing i noticed that i noticed was how similar the racing lines are for the advance group, and for the beginning and intermediate groups, make sure to get seat-time with the advance group, and yes, makes all of us a little bit more humble, they are that much better!!!!!! :D

For the guys with the mechanical problems, hope all goes well, and hopefully see you all back on the track soon.

Throughout the day, guys were very courteous on the track with pointbys as needed, and it was very easy for me as my arm and finger still sore from them.

I was going to stay for the friday event, but decided to head home as i was gone for 4 trackdays within the past 7 days, and need to stay with the family for some quality time before i have to sleep in the sofa !

Again, Thanks to The Perfect Line, NCE, SpeedElement, and Works for all the hard work and help with our community !

BTW, is there anyone ready for another NCE trackday? :D

Big Thanks to SpeedElement for towing my evo up, although i have to drive it back down as they have to pickup one of the wounded warriors.

Don't mind the abnoxious wind noise and my huge dome of a head getting in the way. I was doing 2:16~2:17 lap times pretty consistantly through out the day. It was a cool meet and I must thank SpeedElement and the wonderful NCE folk for helping me troubleshoot my minor mechanical. I was lucky it was just a blown intercooler hose which was fixed before the after lunch sessions.

I was towed using a rope attached to the stock strut bar and a pillow to keep the hood from latching.

Hey Wilson...
Glad you had fun, and thanks for th ecompliment!:)

It was a great day...the track was slippery though, Bryan and I both noticed that from 3-6 there was much less grip than usual...yes, I was faster with wilson in the car...ran a 2:06.9 with him in the second session, first session was 2:08...did not have my timer on for the rest of the day...again, great fun, good folks, glad to see you all, sorry about all the mechanical woes. Looking forward to the next Perfect Line event, Kudos Roger and Crew!

Dave,

If you want to do an instructional day, perhaps you should do one of these Thunderhill Driving School days. I've personally never done it, but others who have say good things about it.

Perhaps the track's lack of grip compared to previous trips had something to do w/ the amount of traffic that's been on the track during the previous few days?* According to the track schedule, 7/5 had nothing scheduled, and 7/1 - 7/4 were all motorcycle days.* So the m/c guys, being a lot lighter, definitely don't lay down as much rubber on the track as cars... so maybe that had something to do w/ the lost traction.
