View Full Version : Trunk lid with no holes...
Does anybody have a Evo RS trunk lid for sale? [soon]
If not, can anybody confirm which one of these does not have holes, and will fit an '03 VIII?
MN161463 RS ~04/07/31 trunk lid
MN161464 RS 04/08~ trunk lid (no spoiler)
MN150620 RS 04/08~ trunk lid (spoiler)
MN161462 MR trunk lid (spoiler)
MN161463 MR trunk lid (no spoiler)
I am guessing MN161464
My question is based on the fact that the RS never came with a spoiler, nor did the MR come without one; so the numbers are confusing... :?
Thanks.

Follow up question:
What is the difference between an MR trunk lid, and an RS trunk lid?
{if there is one}

RS is supposed to use even thinner metal.
Did they ever offer an MR without the wing?
I would want the stronger tougher trunk.
Do you think there is a difference in the torsional strength of the 2 different trunks?
Is that why they put the trunk brace on the RS?

Don't see why the thinner material matters, unless you live in hail country or something. I doubt any car would rely on the trunk for chassis rigidity.

+1 the trunk doesnt matter, im assuming theres a difference in getting the 3 different model trunk in wing/wingless is because you can get it at the dealer wingless as an option to save money...yes...even an MR.
a thicker trunk doesnt help rigidty its just better protection like matz says, the thinner one is for weight saving.

They must have made the wing an option again for 06? I know for 05 Evos the wing was included, not an option, even on MR's.
I would want the added weight to the rear.
The weight distribution on Evos is very front heavy.
Without the wing, it makes it worse.
A heavier trunk lid would help equalize that and provide extra rigidity.

The wing weighs like 3 lbs. And a trunk provides 0 structural integridy. Remember, 60/40 is ideal weight distribution for our cars.
It seems hard to believe that the trunk 0 strucutral integrity. I am sure it is minimal, but 0?!
Why isn't a 50/50 weight distribution better than a 60/40?
Does anybody know why the RS is the only car with the trunk bar?
Just ordered mine from mitsubishiparts.net... under $300 shipped! :) Gonna take it to EIP to get painted later.

Right on, Dave! Which part number did you end up going with? Post pics when it's done!

i would have someone weld the holes if your never going to use them ever again
As far as I can tell, MN161464 is the one you want. I received mine, and it's black w/o holes. I'll post up pics tomorrow... I didn't bring my camera to work, and I can't fit the trunk in my wife's car's... er... trunk. Gonna call EIP to see if they need to have it on the car, or if I can just drop off the trunk and my existing trunk (or wing) for them to do the color matching.
