here is my garage queen that never sees the day of light... I think its moved 5000 miles in the past 3-4 years.

as much as you guys probably hate them, the top end is simply unsurpassed by anything else I've driven.

So far the best quarter mile et i've gotten is 11.0 @ 134 with a huge boost leak due to a loose AN fitting on the wastegate.

This summer I hope to get it deep into the tens with a similarily sized turbo except ball bearing. The engine is a 1.8 liter. Some of the parts on here I custom fabbed from scratch like the intercooler end tanks and charge pipes.

Didn't you already post this awhile back? I could have sworn..

Either way, it's a nice car.

Nice car Andy, I think I've seen you working on her at Rcrew a couple years back.

Server might not have enough space though.

The used parts stuff on hondas and parts in general has gone down a lot you can build yourself a really good track car for very little money.

This might be a repost but here's an N/A car I used to work on at my old job.

This car was built as an open track fun car. I agree that NA is the way to go for hondas. Started my turbo car back in high school, and 10 years later thats how it turned out lol.

How come there is a dip in the trq chart at the start? Slipping clutch?

Thats Dan's EK right?

Honda = cheap track toy is right! :)

Andy you should put the HP and mods of that civic in your sig so it can get even larger then it is now. ;)

EFIxMR

That is the full optimization of ivtec. Also 4 cylinder na cars also get resonance effects from intake length that give large noticeable increases in torque some places in power band and not others.

This engine has seen extensive dyno time, 20+ hours of tuning off and on to extract the most hp possible everywhere throughout the rpm range. The scaling of the graph also leads one to see dips more pronounced. *

This engine which is basically a stock k20a type R from japan is running only bolt on's. It's running a long tube tri y header, 3 inch exhaust, and custom intake with a motec m800 for management tuned from scratch (no basemap, no config file).

We've done back to back testing between this dynapak and a local 2wd dynojet and the dynojet actually read 2-3 whp more.

Yep, this is Dan's car. Not sure how its running since I left. Tracking hondas are much more affordable than EVO's. Gas is about half consumption, brake and tires are also significantly less wear.

How fast are K20A powered hatches?

EFIxMR
06-01-2006, 10:04 PM
On streets of willows a well prep'd car k20a can do 1:30 ish on street tires (azenis). At button willow (config 12-13?) on street tires they can do between 2:02-2:05. At Thunderhill, 2:04 - 2:05 with the bypass.

So about as fast as your typical BPU EVO with a good driver.

Quarter mile times are mid 12's @ 110-112 on slicks.

K20a swap is rediculously expensive though. near 10 grand. Not sure if anyone sane would do such a thing.

Damn, 10g's for a swap is crazy.. You can spend a few grand more and get a whole RSX!

I'll probably go w/ a B-series if I ever decide to pursue a swap for my hatch.

EFIxMR
06-02-2006, 01:16 PM
Yea, but unfortunately you'd have an RSX.

Worse part is that these sort of things need to be paid in full, for 10 grand that's a down payment on an EVO or Sti.

If you are looking to race in Honda Challenge H1 though, the K motor is pretty much the ticket, as there's no way to match the K motors 232 whp with bolt ons and a tune with a B series given the allowed modifications.

Also, the K motor is highly susceptable to over rev damage. 8100 rpm must be strictly adhered. Those H1 guys that run the K are on their 2nd+ motor.

The HPDE swaps tuned and built at RCREW so far has had zero problems.

Or swap an H22. Brandon Kraus is running a stock H22 in his prelude and he is a front runner in H1. Of course, he is one hell of a driver. :P

MarkSAE
06-02-2006, 06:32 PM
What are the disadvantages of an H22 swap? Does it make the car too front heavy?

EFIxMR
06-02-2006, 06:48 PM
The transmission of the H22 isn't known to be the greatest precision shifter feel wise compared to other hondas.

USDM tranny ratios are widely spaced.

Axle alignment problems (big time issue for track use) that lead to accelerated cv joint wear.

Heavy.

High mileage.

Relative lack of aftermarket support.

Engine is significantly more difficult to work on (comparable to a 4G63).

Not a bolt on swap.

Oil pan hangs low.

Nikisil (sp) liners incompatible with forged pistons.

dohcvtec
06-02-2006, 06:53 PM
can't use forged pistons in any Hx car anyways :P But I'm VERY impressed with the lap times Brandon puts down with that big prelude and heavy H22 motor.

EFIxMR
06-02-2006, 06:57 PM
True, was just saying in general.

I think the B series is the best sane swap for a Honda. Like anything though it is easy to go overboard and go on a spending spree.

What about HRR2162PDC swaps?

I want to swap this bad boy into muh neon:
