If you're wondering what I'm talking about:

If you're wondering what it's for:

The vortex generator, an innovation in aerodynamics technology and offered as a dealer-fitted accessory, creates small vortices at the trailing end of the roof that reduce drag and increase the downforce generated by the rear-deck spoiler.
Am I mistaken or are they just bits stuck on the roof (i.e. no underlying mechanism/structure)? I wonder how I might go about getting myself a set... Anybody else interested?

I am just concerned if for some reason a small pocket of air gets under that and it flies right off. Most likely it is stuck on there with double sided tape.

according to Ralliart MR brochure,

That vortex generator costs about $280-$300.

Vortex Generator Test results (on 180km/h)

Rear downforce: + 2kg = 35% UP
Air Resistance (CD) : 1.1% OFF

Vtulu, I want one of these. I think Cal at Gruppe-S has them on order.
I have seen one of these unistalled and it has tabs at the end that extend over the roofl line. I'm thinking that it is kept on with some industrial stregnth double sided tape and that the tabs at the ends tuck into the rain gutter (black thingy) that traces along the roof line on both sides of the car. I'm gonna buy one as soon as Cal gets them in. I'll let you see it before the install if you want.

If it's +2kg and that's 35% up, does that mean that the stock wing generates only about 6kg of downforce (at 112mph)? I find that hard to believe--my spare tire generates more "downforce" than that.

A while ago there was a discussion (I think on evom) about how a lot of the downforce generated by the wing only serves to counteract the lift generated by the car (because of the lack of rear diffuser).

So maybe they mean net downforce?

I researched the same topic on EvoM this afternoon and found nothing conclusive. (No surprise there.) I wonder if there's some way to determine the answer experimentally--without the aid of a wind tunnel? (If only there were a way of monitoring how much load there was on the rear springs...)

Thanks for the info Cal. I'll probably hold off 'til the end of the year, as they're not legal for A Stock (auto-x classing). Anyway I won't really need them until I do stuff like road racing--they're pretty useless for auto-x at any rate. :)

I found on EvoM that RBMotoring is selling the MR Vortex Generators (http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?threadid=79240) for a not so friendly price of 360$.

Is this worth 360$ to you?

Hopefully if/when the MR comes here, the part will become cheaper. Anyway I can't put it on this (auto-x) season so I can afford to wait at least until the end of the year.

hmmm any body thought of getting the rest of the CF wing too? I mean we have the middle part... how bout getting the 2 CF part on the side? Cal is it on the MR catalog?

I thought it was just the black OEM wing, not full CF. Why do I predict a jump in Tarmac Black paint market? May as well spray the hood too ;)
