Car sputters for some reason. Just swapped to a larger turbo recently but I'm having issues trying to figure out what's happening.

Here's a link to a thread on EvoM:
http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=210168

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think your timing is too aggressive for the 35R. at that boost 25 psi or so you can make good power with just 7 degrees of timing from peak torque to redline. if you want a little more power on the top end you can ramp up the timing a bit, but it is no where as aggressive as stock which runs to 20 degrees +.

the ramp you are looking for to redline is at most 2-3 degrees total by redline on pump fuel.

Sputtering can also be caused by extremely rich afrs

I replied to the thread on EvoM if you want to take a look.

So you're saying I should use 7* of timing from peak torque all the way to redline? Or 10* per your second paragraph? Would that cause EGT's to be higher than normal? I'm using pump gas with methanol if that helps.

I think the sputtering is causing AFR to become rich.

Here's my EcuFlash rom:

and here's what the car should look like (but without the weird spike when the car sputters):

The car actually starts sputtering BEFORE AFR goes rich, but sometimes it happens at around the same time.

How would one go about checking if a TiAL WG is faulty? Take it off the car and fill the bottom nipple with compressed air to see when it opens up? My wife and I hear the WG start opening and closing right when the car stutters. I can have it do that in 5th gear with the correct amount of gas and with positive boost (starts at under 7.5 psi as seen in a couple of the ECU+ logs).

I appreciate your input, Andy. Thanks!

What boost controller do you have?

Mike

Blitz SBC-iD... it was running fine before the swap. I did rotate the solenoid 90 degrees (and mounted it that way) during the swap so the lines were pointing straight up versus having them point straight back towards the cabin while running the stock turbo. I rotated it another 90 degrees yesterday so the lines are pointed towards the front of the car but haven't had a chance to test it out.

I found a thread on EvoM that spoke of the exact same problem I'm experiencing. The author said that his solenoid was faulty.

Description of problem:

Solution:

I hope the problem is as simple as this. If rotating the solenoid doesn't do the trick, I'm going to hook up the lines directly to the WG. Hope I have time to test out the car today.

Thanks Mike.
