Yesterday I saw those really whacked out looking Golf's. They made them in 96 and most of body panels are different colors. I haven't seen one in about 10 yrs when I saw one at Fremont Volkswagon when I was working at Fremont Nissan. As a matter of fact it was very close to the time of the Flight 800 disaster and yesterday was actually the 10th anniversery  After that car sat on the lot for months and months I'd never seen another one until yesterday.

Then last night/this morning 12:30am I saw a super clean M5 with a loud exhaust on Willow Pass. That V10 sounds sick!

From what I remember they are very rare & only made a few hundred. I can't find ANY info on them searching google. Anyone have official stats on it? I know the one that we had at Fremont VW (long gone now) had the 2.0L motor. Not sure if they came in VR6 form.

ot its a marketing ploy? that they are switching the name to rabbit instead of keeping it golf? i am wrong to say that a golf and a rabbit are the same cars?

rabbit and golf is the same thing. The name changed orginally from rabbit to golf in america because VW thought america wouldn't want a car named "rabbit". Now since everyone is all misty retro about everything they are changing the name back.

Everything old is new again...

These VW Golf are called the harlequins, they were only made in 1996 and only 200 of them were made. even though these are ugly they are a collector piece. The last 3 number of the vin is the number in which the car came out of production. and if you check out the back panel of the car thats the base color

Thanks for the info. 200 rings a bell. Looks like the front bumper is what color the front doors are and the rear bumper is what color the rear doors are. The sighting I had the other day was a rare one I guess. I still think they are ugly hehe.

This one looks pretty sweet. Looks like a VR6 swap.
