Man with many Evo's getting the shake down from the police what about those freaking diesel trucks? Many modded one just spew out black smoke like this 11 sec monster (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2489617396678978195&q=fast+diesel) that just killed that FC*   I haven't run across any this fast as of yet but I have ran into many that billow out smoke. I have on more than one ocassion witnessed them street racing before. It's pretty funny because you can't even see who wins* My wife has a severe allergic reaction to diesel smoke and can't breathe if she takes in too much. My friend recently bought a 06 Dodge Big Horn and he's modding it like crazy* The thing pulls hella hard for what it is. Sorry to rant but it's time for the police to profile some other groups too* :D

Diesels are smog-exempt; however the requirements for diesel cars and trucks will change in a couple years, and diesels will be required to meet the same emissions standards as gasoline cars. That effectively means no more diesels until we get low-sulphur diesel fuel here like they have in Europe.

Diesel can be made to be as clean as gasoline. As I understand it, the thing about diesel is that combustion temperatures are much higher, leading to more particulate (smoke) in the exhaust which is the black smoke you commonly see. There are filters that can effectively deal with the smoke (and catalytic converters to deal with other exhaust by-products) but they're very quickly clogged up and rendered useless by the sulphur content in the diesel fuel we have. Otherwise, diesel would make a great gasoline alternative; the Europeans have plenty of diesel cars that get better mileage than gasoline-electric hybrids.

Here's a diesel car I'd like to have:
