I was looking at most of the Evos here and just with bolt-ons, it's not what i am shooting for.... so maybe im planing for cams.... i have a 05 evo gsr, im shooting for 300-350 hp.... im looking at the 280 hks cams and camgears.... which are the cams that will i have to upgrade my valvesprings and retainers?

do you have an 8 or 9? if you have 8, you going to need more than cams..

With all the bolt-ons Im hoping with all my might that it will hit close or even on 300hp on a mustang dyno:
-Greddy FMIC Kit
-Invidia O2 Housing
-DC DP
-Magnaflow Cat Back
-K&N Intake
-Walbro Fuel Pump
-21lbs of boost

on 91 Octane....

I doubt it though..... maybe on 115 Octane or something....

You should be able to get close with a good tune. Do a search and you'll see it's already been done.

add test pipe and you will reach 300 with all your mods..

With an Evo 8, I'm not so sure. You will definitely need cams, and if you go with 280s, I think the lift is high enough that you'll have to upgrade your valve springs. You should see what the guys in SJCoruja's WHP/TQ rollcall thread are making. I don't think you'll hit 350 without an upgraded turbo, and maybe some magic pixie dust.

Although it's none of my business, the important thing to ask is, why do you need 350WHP? Are you racing it on the dragstrip or something? If not, maybe there are other mods that'll work better for you?

with C16 and big boost u could do 350whp probably.

300whp, just follow my mods. ;)

Ah, good to know that he won't have to look for a vendor that carries magic pixie dust. :)

When tuning for 100+ octane, do you usually drive until the empty light comes on, then fill with 100, then drive until empty again, then fill again and tune? Just wondering.

OT, but I still can't get the frickin' ECU+ logs out of my Palm. Hopefully I can get a tweak from you soon! I'd better email Tom directly.

All my friends and relatives around me are thinking that i will hit 300hp easily with all my bolt ons.... Im like.... yeah...... you guys just dont know just because it's a evo does not mean it's a inline 6 supra..... I love the evo and yes i am a straight away guy not much into cornering... i just love the way the evo drives up to the mountains and all.... it's a best all around car..... with all the bolt-ons i figure i could take them off if i do get state reff or smog issues but if it's not going to make 300hp than i might have to go with cams.... :)

Yeah, start saving your cash for the cams... it's going to cost a bunch, depending upon which cams you end up buying. Could be cams + cam gears + valve springs & retainers + head studs + labor in the worst case scenario. :( You could get WORKS 269s for the stealthy camgearless installation, but my Evo doesn't make as much power with them as other Evos with similar mods. But then again, I think nebo's made near 275 on the EIP MD?

so which cams can i get without the springs and retainers and will it get me to 300hp?...i am also looking at different setups that other members had done to their cars and maybe that will also help me out, just reading that someone has done it...

I've read that 272s are the limit.

It depends if you're talking about 300 wheel hp, or 300 crank hp. Big difference. We talk in mostly 300 whp.

i dont think the problem is that its not physically possible, just not safe. I think that with the extra lift, stronger springs are recomended so things don't get left hanging in the air whiel the rest of the system is moving.

it's recomended on 272's as well, but its much more common for someone to run 272's w/o upgraded lifters/retainers.

Also, 280's have trouble passing smog i heard

the 280's are extremely lumpy and produce some noxious exhaust fumes. It is only for the most hardcore.

You probably could if you messed with it enough. A bayarea DSMer passed with 272 but with lots of work.

I know for sure mine wouldn't pass.

Just say i put in the 272 on a brand new 05 Evo straight from the dealer..first mod ever in the virgin evo even before a oil change.... will it still be able to pass smog...?
