Knocking from head 05 evo

To me it sounds like the valves are knocking...when i turn on the car, I can hear the valves knocking but it also makes the same knocks on my friends 03 evo as well but it is not as loud as mine.... i have about 12K miles on my evo..... is it normal???

It's probably lifter tick. It was quite common in DSMs. The severity of it was dependent on the type of oil being used. Thinner oils made the tick go away. What brand and viscosity of oil are you using?

mine has crazy ticking going on.. has been for the past 20K.

so lifter tick is ok? I had my lifters replaced and it still ticks.

Lifter tick may trigger the knock sensor and cause it to give false readings, which will lead to pulled timing and power loss. What oil are you using? I've never had a problem using 10W-30. Perhaps you can try using 5W-30 to see if the ticking goes away.

stock cams and cam gears, yes... im also running on Mobile One 10W30 Fully Senthytic... to me it sounds like my valves are knocking.....?

How many miles on the current oil? The 4G63 likes to start ticking with dirty oil.
