saw this ad on Car And Driver. I think it looks pretty interesting.. any of you guys interested? Maybe I can setup an acct and do a group-buy on these.
Anyone?
Cal
They were using one of these on Fifth Gear a while ago to measure drift angle on an Audi vs M3 "drift battle". The datalogging features actually look more interesting than the drifting ones.
And it has GPS in it as well! That's pretty sweet. What kind of pricing do you think you can get?

That driftbox is a fugging rip off at $750. Talk about jumping on the bandwagon and trying to cash in.
This is much better for the money if you want something like that. $299 for the top end one that does data logging as well. The $200 ones does the same stuff as the driftbox.

For track timing, the lap timers are much much better.

that maybe true but DriftBox has more easier to read features, seems to have better build quality, and more baller status ;)* we will see.. my friend has the GTechPro and we will do a comparison soon :)
EarlyApex, I think that you missed that the DriftBox has GPS as well: serial port output, Google earth integration, 3-d mapping, etc. Take a look at the manu. UK website, it's much better.

Yea since it has GPS it does track overlay. Which about 00.134% of us really need.
I want back-roads google overlay, personally. :)
As a datalogger, it seems decent enough, and the fact that it's under a grand is good. EvoScan can do all the TPS/engine monitoring, and if I can download logs from this thing and integrate with Evoscan, I'll be delighted.

Google overlay sounds pretty dope, whats the URL for the UK site? Is this the same thing as the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Vbox?

I think the reason why DriftBox cost so much more is because of the GPS features..

Yes and no. It's like the mini version but it doesn't have and accessory inputs for brake, rpm, etc,...
That unit sells for $1600
The hardcore telemetry one goes for like $5k with a lot of add on modules available for more.

Where you seeing these features? I see USB (not serial), output of data already attained to google maps (not on the fly), where is 3D mapping other then the google earth stuff? I do see serial cable in diagnostic mode so you can hookup GPS mapping but it looks like the unit doesnt do everything else while in diagnostic mode.

hmm, good points. What data acquisition do you like?

or if you have a recent thinkpad, use its accelerometers and an external gps:

Hmm... lucky me! But I don't think I'd autox with my thinkpad in the car. My next mod will be the G2X. Sure would be nice if someone here has it already and can give a demo of its capabilities.
