View Full Version : Which replacement tire should I get for my stk wheels?

I need new tires for my stock evo 8 rims. These tires will be used everyday & won’t really see much rain.

My priorities are: longer tire life, a softer ride, reduction in road noise & I don’t mind giving up some grip.

What do you guys recommend / have experienced with your evo's?

So far I have read favorable write-ups about Kumho ASX's & Falken azenis

Thanks for your input.

falken azenis sports is the way to go. search under falken azenis at socalevo and you will find tons of info. apparently the new compound on the tires are much better than the old ones.

If you want a reduction in road noise, DO NOT buy the falkins.

They are much louder than the stock tires.

Chrisw- thanks for the noise output info.

Gruppe-S S03's? Who makes them?

Thanks again.

Bridgestone!

I'd also look into the Toyo T1S.

I just replaced my advans w/ toyo t1s and i am very happy with them. great performance, price and aggressive tread pattern. not as sticky as the advans but will last twice as long.

jomama- How is the road noise & ride compared to the advans?

Thanks for the info guys

WOT - they're not noisy at all. the advans where a little mushy for me, the toyos have a stiffer sidewall which i like. my car is a daily driver so the toyos are perfect for me. haven't pushed my car that hard with the toyos but so far i am very pleased with the ride. did give up a little grip with the toyos but to know that they will last twice as long as the advans are worth it. (advans only lasted about 14k miles)

Jomama-You say the side wall is stiffer, wouldnt that translate to a slightly stiffer ride as well?

Does anyone have or heard how well the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 performs? I have read good things=good grip, quiet & a good ride, but kinda pricey.

Yokohama AVS DB2

Wow- you feel very strongly about this! :D

I am glad to hear this type of input.

If your driving up the 101 in your evo, take the G16 west for some serious twisties. Cut across to go over to the track, after about 45 min of the G16. Well worth it. Just be careful for the wild life, cause you wont see too many cars there & its easy to get careless.

Does anyone know of a good comparison website besides tirerack?

I would like to compare some toyo's, falkens (st115 & the Ziex line), yoko's (AVS DB2), goodyear's (F1 GS-D3) & Pirelli (P zero nero M&S)

As you can tell by my choices above, I dont mind giving up some grip that the Advans offered for a softer quiter ride with a tire that will last ~20K +.

Thanks for all your info so far.

WOT - like i said my car is a daily driver so i haven't really pushed my car on any good twisties with the new tires. the advans just felt to mushy too me and the toyos eliminated that feeling. it all depends on what you are going to use your car for. as a daily driver i think the toyos are perfect.

Evo_Dadi - my brother just brought his m3 back from vegas. he's ready for a drive.

Jomama- My EVO is my daily driver too! That's why I am interested in the tire life, road noise & softer ride qualities.

Thanks.

i was personally gonna go with the avid h4s (yokohama) cuz its got a 60k warr. or the new fuzions cuz they're cheap!

BluEvo

i've heard of the fuzions. who are they made by? and are they any good?

ive seen ads for those tires on the mag but i think those are mainly show stuff.

kataklyzm

they're bridgestones, they arent made for performance like the stock advans are, but since i dont auto-x or race my car except for the occasional light to light, they'll be just fine for me. they are made to compete with kumho and other "cheap" tuner tires like the ecsta supra.

I am heavily thinking about getting the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 based on the few tire test's / comparisons that I have read.

Sorry absinte!!! How was laguna?

I am told I will be getting a swinging deal on them too, as I worked with the goodyear guys on their development CART series effort.

tire choice is about tract rating tread wear rating and price and more importantly your wallet. I switched to the yoke hama es100's long tread life cheap and they hand 80% as good as stock but last a long time

kataklyzm
06-08-2004, 04:41 PM
the things i noticed with yokohama es100 is that if they wear unevenly, like on my bmw, (crappy control arm bushings) they make a hell of alotta noise and make the car pull like a mofo. but if you keep them wearing good, 20k miles out of them is about average. theres one guy at work that has them and he rotates/align/psi checks them religiously, and they are still quiet like new and evenly worn
