I am considering making the plunge into the Evo community and I have already been looking into the software options out there. Currently it seems that companies like Vishnu, WORKS, etc only offer standard remaps and 1 time custom remaps. No offense to those that own these re-flashes, but it seems that the Evo software options are a bit lacking. I was wondering if there are any companies that offer a tunable software interface out there for Evos similar to what I have in my GTI.

Currently I have 4 maps on my car’s ECU (stock, 91oct, 100oct and valet mode). Basically I can easily switch through each mode by holding down the set button on my cruise control to cycle through the maps… Another feature that I have is quick immobilization of the car for theft prevention.

I also have an interface called a “VAG-COM” that allows me to connect to my ECU via a laptop which allows me to scan codes, re-program (countless things), and data log. I save myself dealer visits by scanning my own codes, researching them in the Bentley Manual and correcting them. The software that I have allows me to adjust variables such as boost and timing among other things as seen below.

This software along with the VAG-COM’s ability to data log boost, torque, etc allows me to fine tune my car for each new upgrade that get.

Are there any software solutions that provide these features so that I don’t need to pay for a new custom tune for every new mod I get? Is there such a device that allows me to scan, reprogram and diagnose my car?

Thanks in advance :)

True that is a solution. However I wasn't planning a completely new engine management system.

A quick look on Vishu's site informed me that there is an adjustable map comming in the near future:

"1) XFlash is fully compatible with the soon-to-be-released XFlashTuner adjustment module (available in Spring 2004) which will provide users the ability to induce real-time fuel, ignition and boost adjustments. This allows users to “custom-tune” their specific car and well as induce the necessary mapping changes for high octane race gas, low boost valet mode, etc., While not as supremely tunable or flexible as our fully-programmable XEDE engine control system, the XFlashTuner is very effective, easy to use and requiring little or no tuning experience."

As far as interfacing... Is there some standard Mitsubishi ODB2 cable (and software) that the "average joe" uses to scan/clear codes, and data log?

Thanks

Are you sure you read the info on the website I linked you to??

If you want to do datalogging ONLY...then Nology makes a kit...as well as Pocketlogger has one also.

pocket logger is pretty good, but can only read obd2 parameters and read and clear error codes. utec/exde are piggy back systems, utec can also do datalogging. btw, tama_mog, do you have a utec?

yeah, I haven't put it in my car yet, I'm waiting on my springs from tomei so I can tune with my procams. =)

something that will allow you as well is the Apexi FC (its a stand alone) but will allow you with the FC commander to make changes. Its limited to one map at a time. Not like the EMS which you can take the most advantage of having different maps for different fuels.

but isnt with the fc that some of its capabilities can be locked by distributors?

drew,

you can do almost all of what you want with the Xede system sold by Vishnu.

http://www.vishnutuning.com/xede_evo.htm

It's a piggyback system, but it is also plug & play, no cutting of the wiring harness is required.

IMHO, this system is the best solution available. Being local helps too.
