Thread: Stay away from Kics Neo Chrome lug nuts they're crap!

Default Stay away from Kics Neo Chrome lug nuts they're crap!

Like the topic says, stay away from these all show no go lug nuts. I thought I was getting quality lug nuts that could withstand anything as well as look great. Man was I wrong! I was simply trying to get a lug nut off and it broke. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it out? I bought some drill bits and was thinking about drilling the stud out but I wasn't sure if that were a good idea. I'd like to replace the studs anyway but with my luck lately I think I should just have a shop do the work. I might break something again and I'm starting to get tired of working on my own ride. Seems like nothing is going my way.

Updated pics! Finally got the broken lug nut and wheel off. I pretty much drilled it in just the right spot and then wiggled the wheel a little and the lug nut popped out.

Just in case you're wondering what drill bits I used. You'll want to alternate between the two bits when drilling.

I think it's metal fatigue. I've been uninstalling my wheels more than usual these last few weeks and I think the lugs decided to give out. If you look at the lugs it doesn't look like there's much of a sidewall to them.

RgistRdShowoffIX- how'd you get yours off after it broke?

could be metal fatique.. because the factory wheel studs seem pretty weak.. however i am not an expert at this so i will ask my guys for their 2nd opinion..

For those of you thinking about swap out your old studs, I highly recommend the ARP wheel studs if its time to replace the old ones. Also, when torquing your lugnuts, make sure torque it with proper tools and within specs.

I always wondered about the durability of aluminum lug nuts. Aluminum definitely is not the ideal material to use for fasteners, even the aged and hardened kind. In a battle of aluminum lug nut vs. hardened steel wheel stud, the wheel stud will always win.
