Thread: Camera Mount for HPDE

    Default Camera Mount for HPDE

Im currently using a mount that attaches to the rear child seat attachment point (the middle one). Most of the videos are coming out perfectly stable, but its shitty because you cant see the whole track and it just sits too far back. It looks like the speeds are 30mph slower. Although it allows you to see the driver's steering and shifting.

Im thinking of going with another setup. Is it legal to have a in-car windshield camera mount during HPDE? Does the rules vary by group and if you know which group allows or doesnt allow, please share? I do not want harness bar and do a camera mount for that. I just bought a cg lock so it should suffice.

and a .45x wide angle lens $56 otd

Havent bought them yet. Verdict Yes? No? Thanks for your help.

Last time I checked, they won't allow something that is suction cup or goes on the window.

needs to be secured/fixed, and have a secured strap as a secondary.

that mount can hold 50lbs and its a not a regular suction cup. Its a vacuum cup as described in the link. Hmm, this sucks. I guess I cant argue with that. Anyone else has a better idea? Btw how are the bullet cameras legal if it is mounted on a suction cup (bumper, hood). Should i just keep my original mount and live with the crappy view?

I would skip that above model and roll one of the ChaseCam suction mounts. Cheaper and much more proven. ChaseCam has a lot of representation in the motorsports community.

I use the Ultra Mount, and I have used it in NASA before inside my windshield, without them saying anything. Though I think their rules do state that it must be a secured mount. I have put my Ultra Mount on the outside of my car for both track days and twisty roads and never had an issue with it.

The GoPro Camera is gaining a lot of popularity at track days as well. I may pick one up to get an extra vantage point for events. I see people use them as footwell cameras, rear views, close to ground, etc. The GoPro gives you a lot of flexibility. I have seen them used at NASA events in race groups and HPDE.

the suction mount idea for the chase cam, isnt that theoretically the same idea i proposed and still not legal for HPDE. Chasecam systems for a camera and recorder is like 875. http://www.chasecam.com/node/116
I mean if both uses suction cup, wont it be cheaper to just do what i said in first post since they allow the chasecam on the front windshield.

    or i can do this
