Default What do you guys use to convert RAW files?

First time I shot in RAW mode with a Nikon D40x and the files have an extension .NEF and CS2 or Bridge would not open them. I tried downloading freeware to convert them but seems like a PITA to do, unless that is how it is really?

Just wondering how you guys do it. TIA!

Your D40x came with NikonView software. That will open it. Or photoshop.

cs3 right now. Hopefully cs4 here shortly. After just one time opening a raw file in cs3 there is not a chance in hell I will ever shoot JPEG again. I actually trashed about 95% of my JPEG stuff.

I use CS2 to open RAW files. You just need to download the addon for the ext.

Double click the background and it should prompt you to "open file". or drag the .NEF file into photoshop

Gives me an error that it's not the correct format. Maybe I am missing a plug-in?

    Charlie, what add-on is that?
