im debating if i should just gut out my cat rather than running a test pipe. i know that it is a hefty fine like a $2500 ticket if the cops see that you are running a test pipe than running a cat. just want to hear what you guys say about it.

I'd say gut it if you have one to spare. Otherwise just buy a cheap test pipe. You don't want to gut your cat and end up needing it later on down the line.

Or you could run a hiflow cat and not warm up the planet as much.

Is there much difference in terms of HP gains from runing a test pipe compared to a rally cat? I have an ultimate racing cat somewhere that I need to install, or are you specifically referring to the RRE rally cat?

You should spend some extra cash and just get a rally cat. You can look at mine at the Wed night meets if you want. ;)

yeah, the rally cat is a full 3" unit, where as gutting the cat would still leave you with 2.5"

gutting the cat would create some turbulence in the pipe, since the stock cat goes to what, 4'' in the middle of the pipe, and tapers to 2.5'' toward the flanges? a test pipe will yield much smoother flow, thus more power IMO.

rally cat and test pipe flows the same, a rally cat is just a test pipe wrapped around with cat shields.

what are you using the car for? does it warrant not having any cat?

it's just a buyer's guide... so therein are my opinions about test pipes etc. and some info that hopefully you already knew about the rallicat

but SPEED ELEMENT stop selling their rally cat, so im just thinking of gutting out my high flow cat instead

well... i dont know if you read waht i wrote but a rallicat is a resonator inside.

a cat is not. it'll be a big cavity, which isn't good for flow.

wow, it'd be like 180 dollars cheaper to buy a TP, and weld on a heat shield from the junkyard yourself

Yup. I took my cat heat shield off and had it spot welded onto my helix test pipe for $20. Looking under the car at it, you'd think its the stocker.

You are correct! Jumping from a smaller diameter to a large then back to a small creates a huge amount of turbulence/backpressue! This is why you want to stay away from gutted cats, or exhaust systems with neckdowns at the flanges and such.
