View Full Version : Local sources for racing fuel?

I dropped a gallon of xylene into my tank this morning to boost my octane to 93. I've only had the car a couple weeks so I can't honestly say I could tell a difference--certainly not on the short drive I took to the office. According to my web research, opinions on boosting octane via xylene are mixed--some swear by it, others say it doesn't work as well as some claim.

Given this I'd feel better simply putting around 3.5 gallons of 100-octane (unleaded) racing fuel into the tank before topping it off with premium. And depending how much racing fuel costs, it may not be that much more expensive than xylene--and certainly more convenient.

Question is, where can you get racing fuel around here? (I'm in the South Bay.) I tried 76's site and the only station they listed as having racing fuel (3010 Almalden Expwy) has a phone number that's disconnected, and doesn't show up on my maps or in the phone directory. (Meaning it probably no longer exists.)

I've also tried Google, everything search string I could thnk of--no luck.

Anybody know?

that 76 place is right near dyno spot racing, like a 2 minute drive. maybe if you call them up they can tell you if its still there. but that's the only place around here (other than sears point) that i know of that has 100 octane.

There is a 76 station on woodside road in redwood city that offers 100 octane gas.

That 76 still exists. I bought a full tank of 100 octane a month or two ago when I first got my Works Exhale installed, just to see if there would be a big difference. I could swing by there and double check soon, since I work in the South Bay near the 76.

Swung by there today and got 3.2 gallons of 100 + topped off with 91. Which should give me 93 octane.

100-octane was $4.29/gallon, by the way.

I got 5 gallons of 100 octane and filled the rest with 91. I wanted to see if it would make any difference with my newly flashed P2.

So far I have the Buschur catback and the Works P2. No big mods done to my car at all. Overall, the change in gas has made no difference. It feels a bit snappier, but nothing I can attribute directly to the gas. Now, if I had gone with the P2 93 octane map, it might be different.

I just heard a rumour that Unocal 76 will no longer be selling 100 octane.

Let me be the first to say F**K! That sucks!

Someone at work told me you can also get racing fuel in 5-gal jugs from Frey Racing in Fremont. http://www.freyracing.com/

I have a fresh unopened 16 gallon drum of 110 ERC leaded race gas if anyone is interested. I paid over $100 and am willing to let it go for $75.

The lead content is not optimal for long term use on cats/O2 sensors, but for mixing purposes, should be fine -- and 110 octane is obviously higher than normally available in unleaded. Not legal for street use.

You will *love* the P2. That was one of the best things I ever did to my Evo.

have you dyno the car with the P2 and Turbo back?? .. The P2 sounds great but i wonder if it will work with the 264/272 cam combo ...
Or does work have also a cam program available for that combo of HKS cams ?? I know they have one for their cams but not sure if for HKS ...264/272

The 76 station at 975 Woodside Rd. in Redwood City (still) has 100 octane unleaded fuel. A guy here at work got some last night, paid $4.20 a gallon.

theres a store up here in sacramento that sells 100Octane and over 100 octane, i believe they are 110 octane or something, looks like rocket fuel, in any case if someone would like some of this stuff, i can make runs down to san jose and drop this $hit off to perspective racers when i visit my family in san Jo. let me know if someone wants some of this stuff, i have no idea how much it costs but i'm assuming its not overly priced cuz people are constantly buying them.

if you are running a cat i wouldnt recommend running leaded fuel, unless you want a busted cat . The most 100 octane , i use to run c-12 (which is around 110 octane ) on a previous project i had , the bad thing is that i had to mix it with 91 all the time to make sure it ran properly . Didnt have the option of running 91 anymore ...

You can get 110 Octane "leaded" at the pump at the Olympian Gas on So. Linden Ave, 35 So Linden Ave, South San Francisco, the last time we filled up, it was $4.75 a gallon, not too bad if you don't drive you're car that much. Hours of operations 5am to 8pm M-F, Sat 6am-3pm, Sunday closed. No unleaded 110 available just leaded. Yes it will eat your cats.
Also bring an empty gas can and funnel. Preferably an 8 gallon can, because the gas pump nozzle will not fit into the standard size gas fuel hole unless you converted you're gas fuel hole to a racing hole. You will need to pump the gas into the can first then transfer into you're car with the funnel attached. Bring some rags, you might drip some gas, becarful, it's a little dangerous messing around with this high-octane gas. The gas is perfect if you track you're car, or just want to sprint around town for the weekend. Sometimes you can catch loud muscle car guys a the pump filling up like it's water.

i believe and the most i seen is 101 unleaded ,
thats why having a 5 galone container from VP racing is a must  you also have the nozzle to be able to pump it .....

I just called (didn't occur to me to try that before).

It is indeed at the pump. Thanks again!

okay so i take it you'd need to have an empty tank for this stuff to take full effect correct? cuz it kinda defeats the purpose (i think) if you have 91 octane in thur and then
mix 100 with the 91 and get something like 95 octane lolz "naw mean?"

vtluu

Gasoline dissolves pretty well in gasoline, but you do have a point. I usually wait until my tank is almost empty, then put the 100 in, then top it off with 91. I figure the 91 pouring in should mix things up...

Or you could just do a few donuts and stir things up a bit.

Yup, I go there once in a while. I usually don't bother because it's lack of skill, not lack of octane, holding me back at auto-x. ;)

lol well I can tell you, since I was once spoiled on 94, this 91 sure sucks a big ol' nutty.

Mike my bad bro, I am a sob. =/ We'll go today if you get to my place early enough. Plan to come over around 630.
