I have a problem that i noticed as of last night....something is slipping. Maybe it is my clutch but it only does it when I step on the throttle at around 3k rpms and let it rev out.....it will rev kinda freely about 3500 rpms then it catches again. Has anyone had this problem? My car has about 5500 miles on it and I am not hard on it. I have had my times where I have launched the car, maybe like 15 times max. When I launch, I launch at 5k rpms. Could it have to do something with the gear box? I have heard things about the evo's gear box. I think I might take it in tomarrow, they might try to tell me to go to hell and its all my fault. My car is stock except a catback and a drop-in air filter. Thoughts? Advice? thanks

it's your clutch and it's probably your launches that did it. 15 times is more than enough.

...on a stock clutch. It's amazing it even lasted that long.

might be clutch.
but hey jamie, correctly if i am wrong, you did get good amount of hard launches on your stock clutch and it's still holding fine right?

I've got about 50 track and 30 auto-x launches on my stock clutch and it's still holding fine (SS clutch line and restrictor removed almost from the beginning). Every driver is different though ;) 5500 is a bit low to be going out. Good luck if take it to the dealer. Otherwise, check your PM ;)

I dont think it is my clutch, I think i have a boost leak on the dump valve

I drove it yesterday and it is his clutch. He's got an appointment at the dealer tomorrow for an "official" diagnosis. They'll have to contact the area rep or something before he finds out if it'll be worked on under warranty.

Ok it is settled, the dealership said that they would have to break it down to see if it is my fault. I am pretty sure they will find some way to blame it on me soooo..I am going the aftermarket route. Can you believe that they wanted 700 for labor and anther 700 for the same crappy clutch!!!? I say screw that

You don't have to. Resurfacing is just fine. Now would be the perfect time for a flywheel if it's something you're looking into doing. I think Gilbert may be eyeing one ;)
