has anyone installed one of the MR vortex generators yet? if so is it a DItY or would it be better to let a body shop install it?

I think people have been doing it themselves. I'm pretty sure it just goes under the black rubber stripping, and has double stick tape.

It is very easy to do.
I installed it myself.
Make sure you clean the roof well, then lift the molding off slight after opening the trunk, put the vortex generator on the roof making sure it's lined up correcting with the rear edge of the roof and rear window, and push the molding back on over the vortex extensions.
That's it!

There was a group buy on them recently; check the "Buyer's Corner" forum section. Price was roughly $184 dollars or something like that. Most expensive piece of plastic stuck to my car other than the UK Evo VIII badge.

I haven't actually put mine on yet; waiting to finish work on my wing first. When I do, I'll do a full write-up (should be a breeze). Also, it does come with full installation instructions from Mitsubishi.
