It's already got the KEE, and now Kia is ready to unlock its potential and fly the KOUP! These are the first pictures of the exciting coupe that brings a dash of style the Korean firm's line-up.

The sleek KOUP follows the striking KEE concept from last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, and features the firm’s trademark H-pattern grille. Narrow wraparound headlamps and a smart air intake at the front also help to make it the sportiest Kia yet.

The KOUP is longer than a Mazda RX-8, so there’s plenty of space inside, although the stunning show car features a pair of individual rear seats. The cabin looks virtually production-ready, with the design taking in Alfa Romeo-style instrument cowlings, plus an eye-catching starter button.

The performance theme continues under the bonnet, with a new direct- injection 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. Thanks to a twin scroll turbocharger, it produces 286bhp, which is enough to deliver decent pace. It’s mated to a hi-tech six-speed semi-automatic box controlled either by
a sequential style gearlever, or the steering wheel-mounted paddles.

The sleek KOUP was styled at Kia’s America Design Centre in California, rather than the European HQ in Germany, where the KEE concept was penned under the guidance of former Audi designer Peter Schreyer.

There are no plans yet for a convertible version, but if one does get the go-ahead, it could well have a fabric hood. Schreyer is known to prefer these to folding hard-tops.

^Didn't you see those Brembos? This thing should easily be $16,000.

keep dreaming kia!!!!
For real, I wonder how it feels to drive, and what the cost might be. If it's cheap, then I imagine this being the new ricer car to rev around in.

It probably will be around there. They can add all the parts they want but it's still a Kia, I say $22-$25k.

You're right. Just like how an SRT-4 is still a Neon and an Evo is still a Lancer. :D

they have to be atleast $2-3k cheaper than the similar platform by the Japanese automaker in order to be competitive.
This is kinda of a bold move for Kia. Seems like they want to hit the performance platform now huh?
This car will be cheaper than a WRX and Ralliart Lancer... let's hope this will be a good alternative in the future.

isn't a fully loaded civic SI in the mid 20k to the higher 20k? I think this would be competing against the civic/mazdaspeed crowd.

unless they make this RWD or AWD

I think the SI was mid 20's. If I had mid 20's to blow on a new car, I would go for the new ralliart or wrx.

Yeah fully loaded it's low 20's. I've been pricing one out for my gf, she wants to get rid of her gas guzzling Durango. Â*We plan on getting the sedan version though.

It looks like the new Ford Focus. Those scraper rims gotta go.

It's unproportioned and the ground clearance on that thing is ridiculous. It looked like the were designing a crossover SUV, and halfway into it decided to make it a coupe instead.
