I just finished installing my Helix IC piping kit and now my boost has dropped way off.. with the stock pipes i was (with mail in dynoflash) boosting upto 21.5 then slowly back to 19... now with the kit.. i can only boost upto 15psi... and it jumps from 14-16. I checked all the fittings and they're all tight.. no leaks that i could find... any ideas/suggestions?

make 100% sure you don't have a leak and also check your boost vac lines to make sure they are all still connected.

It sounds like you might be just using wastegate pressure.

Heh, I installed the Nisei IC piping kit and my boost pressure went way up--holding about 24-25 psi all the way to redline now.

You need to bring the car by...

You really need to do a boost leak test.

After I installed my Helix IC piping I tested and found several dumb small leaks.

Are you using T-bolts?

is there differences in IC piping? like how much boost you get out of it or maybe hp?

IC piping doesnt generally give much if any power. Its more about boost reliability, but in all honesty Id go for something other then the Helix, I have it and dont care for it to much, not enough to take it off but if I had to do it again Id go with another brand.

i think i found my problem....

when i installed the new piping from the turbo outlet.. i removed the small hose that goes to the "T" fitting... (i replaced it with a longer hose for ease of installment) well i just realized that the hose i removed has a pill/restrictor in it... any idea if this is my problem? and how can this restrictor make such a big drop in pressure? another question.. if i install my mbc.. would this solve my problem safely?

when you install your MBC you do not want any of the pill's in the lines.

Without that pill, and still using stock boost control, you will be running off wastegate pressure. That is your problem. 8)

ok.. but am i right that with my current situation.. the reason i've got so little boost is cause i removed that restrictor? and how many other pills are there?

That is what I just told you. If you removed that pill and you are still using stock boost control then you are running only wastegate pressure, which is 14/15 psi.

If you install your MBC you do not need that pill.

ok.. thanks for the help.. now which method is better for installing my mbc...

1. Connecting to the wastegate and bypass BOV and Intake manifold hose

2. Connected to the Wastegate and Turbo nipple

My MBC is connected to the wastegate and BOV hose like the first diagram.

Like Bryan said. Use diagram 1.

installed it tonight.. works great.. holding steady at 20.5 to redline... i had to rig up the waste gate actuator.. the hose that goes to the MAF.. cause i accidentally broke off the nipple.. oops.. anybody have any idea how much a new one of those will cost? ...

Alot of people are going to intakes so you can find them used. The stealership will be bank.

There is no hose going to the MAF :? Are you talking about the boost solenoid? If you're not using it, leave it broke :P

wrx2evo8
12-02-2005, 09:50 AM
not the maf itself.. ok easier way to explain.. under the air box there are 2 hoses i broke the nipple closest to the firewall... i capped it.. but it's ghetto capped..

dohcvtec

That is your boost solenoid. If you have a MBC its not being used. You don't even need to cap it. I would just leave it broke off. :)

thanks..for the info.. now i don't have to worry about my ghetto rigging falling off!
