my wife wants another car to replace her 03 Celica, and right now it looks like she wants a WRX or a IS300. I'm thinking like 2001 or newer if is300, and like 04-05 if WRX. Anyway it might end up needing to be Auto (damn) but my big question si this.

does anyone know what years are RWD on the IS300, I'm just not sure if they all are or certian years, looks like 2001 is so right now thats what im aiming for.

thanks for help and any opinions :)

I've driven a IS300 (tiptronic auto) and a 04 WRX and a 06 WRX.

The IS300 is nice, might be right for her, but not much performance.

04 WRX nice, good amount of performance

06 WRX same nice, but more performance, lots of torque (06 have 2.5L)

I would get the 06 WRX cuz that what my G/F has and I like it the most out of the 3 cars above.

ps 06 IS300 (now called the IS250) has RWD and optional AWD.

All other years are RWD, with either a 5-speed or a tiptronic auto

thansk for the help. I gotta be honest i know they dont pack much w/ the inline 6 they come with, but I've been told that in Japan they get a 4-banger w/ a turbo, would be a fun swap someday.

Also dont want new i dont think, getting annoyed how my cars value's drop by 25% as u put 1 mile on it.

and do all the 06 wrx's have that fugly nose liek the STi? or is that STi specific? cool though the 2.5 is on them all now

The Japanese IS300 (aka Toyota Altezza) comes with a Beams 2 liter inline 4 that puts out about 200hp and revs really high. Awesome NA motor and probably great fun to drive but hardly powerful... more like a high revving Honda Type-R motor. The turbocharged versions are made by aftermarket companies and factory Toyota tuners like Toms.

All 06 Imprezas have the same nose unfortunately.

I heard the IS250 is a real dog in todays market with it's 204hp and anemic 184lbs ft of torque in a 3,400+ lbs car. The IS350 is a different story with it's 306hp & 277lbs ft of torque. The thing that stinks about the IS350 is that it ONLY comes in a 6spd auto (yawn). I hear it's a very quick shifting auto but come on now. I really like what they've done with the styling on it. As I understood I thought all IS300's were rwd. Are you asking if they offered a awd version? Sorry if I misunderstood.

the Lexas site defintly offers AWD as an option for IS250, its a V6 now too, not a inline

All IS300s sold in the US are RWD. AFAIK there are no other versions (ie awd) of the 1st gen IS sold here. The new, current one offers AWD however, but only with one powetrain choice.

I have one and I love it. the is250 gets great mileage and it has enough juice to get around town and have a little fun. A lot of car for the price.

the is250 comes in AWD or RWD. I got the RWD, dorifto style

I love the new IS styling. With the factory aero kit it looks really aggressive yet clean. :)

nah, she wants a "family car". Her first suggestion was a WRX... i didnt even think, i said yes. But i told her they're probably all manual nowadays(like 04+) if they ever did have auto. Then we always say how we want an is300 when we see one.

Anyway we want to lose the coupe thing(getting rid of 03 Celica) so 4 doors is a must.

Onesick's Z seemed damn drift happy, but maybe it was a little wet that day we were going to autozone? w/e the case it seemed like what power was there, was ready for taking the instant you touch the gas

WRX'es do come in automatic. I remember Chris (used to work at WORKS) rented one for a rallycross.

The Subaru Mazda dealership on Main St. in Walnut Creek had a used wrx with a auto a while back.
