We collaborated with Paul at EIP on this project, and I'm happy to say we've figured out the correct settings on ECUflash to make strong gains on the EVO9 with just minimals mods.

http://www.speedelement.com/images/efi/evoixrs.jpg

-Tanabe 2.75" downpipe (From what I've seen going with a smaller downpipe does not hurt power and possibly increases response)
-3" Test pipe
-Garage HRS 3" exhaust (any 3" exhaust will do, but the Garage HRS is really quiet)
-HKS drop in filter
-Hallman boost controller
-Walboro fuel pump
-Custom SPEEDELEMENT EVO9 reflash

These EVO9's are crazy, they make more power than my EVO8 which has a lot more mods. Best part is under the hood, the car looks stock, idles smooth as stock, but makes crazy tq and whp.

All on 91 octane of course.

has paul figured out a pricing for his custom ECUflash tune?

extremely interested

Not sure how Paul is setting up his pricing structure. Since we tuned this car together it is also available from us. The price will be cheaper than an Ecutek setup, but we still need to make up for our two days of R&D time to get things figured out.

Nice work. Strong curves.

Maybe a IX turbo will be part of my tranny rebuild. ;)

Andy, do you have a chart with before and after curves combined?

^^ I'd liek to see that too

BTW: What's the boost tapering to? Does'nt look it it tapers much at all. I remember after looking on Shiv's computer, my power takes a plunge around 6500 or so

lol..Can I get a copy of that ecu rom

I plan on the same exact mods except I already have a 3" DP and will have one additional resonator inline

Awesome collaboration! Nice numbers with those mods. Soon all the IX's will have 300+whp/300+wtq! :(* 8) All the VIII's gotta step up their game. :P

The boost actually tapers a lot. the tq and hp are maintained thru tuning. unfortunately we don't have a true a to b comparison as when the evo 9 was stock we dynoed it at gruppe-s, but they do read very close.

For this session we turned off the SAE corrections and are running straight actual numbers off the dyno.

measured on the gruppe-s dyno when stock

i heard from two differnet source's that san rafel mistubishi had a tune shop. *and was able to get 315, give or take a few to the wheels with just a drop in k&n and reflash. * is that possable or is it just hear say.

You can't really tell boost taper from the power curves. Cars with cams will have less power curve taper up top but with even more boost taper.

Totally different dyno.

just a question on the IX vs the VIII with cams. So im very impressed that the IX is making this amount of power with minimal mods... but is it pretty much all coming from the turbo? lets say the cars have the same turbo.. and one has the old VIII head with 272s vs mivec IX head.. = horespower but wont the cammed car just walk the other one on the top end? Whenever Iv run with Stis with equal hp.. they just end up getting walked up top as soon as I shift into 5th gear.. this whole "it feels faster" I cant buy.. the latest thing always feels the fatest to everyone.. and a fresh evo will always feel fast.

Yes the cammed 8's can hold more power up top.

This is why I always say to look at the curves not the peak numbers.

However this 9 looks pretty strong up top.

When I operated a Dynapak Dyno the numbers where closer to a Dynojet.

ok thanks just was wondering, i didn't even think about different dyno's playing a roll.

UCB

yup. This car would likely put down 350-360whp on a dynojet

But the boost/power fade doesnt look too dramatic. You should see how much it tapers on the STi, lol

what does a STi plot looks liked?

well i dyno'd at srm and then gruppe-s the next day and they were within 5 whp of each other.

and i'm not going to comment on what srm is getting out of the IX's yet since fisher won't be here for
another week or two.

ic, good to know. interesting how the same brand dyno can vary so much depending on operator setup.

It is just slightly odd when you hear of setups with less mods making more power (if the dyno reads similarily).

Cars with basic mods either EVO9 or EVO8 when fully optimized tune wise aren't going to vary by much. 300 whp +/- 10 whp on pump fuel is maxed out on the Vishnu DD, EIP Mustang, GS Mustang ect.

Basic mods for an EVO9 are
Full TBE, MBC, Fuel Pump, and Intake

Basic mods for an EVO8 are
Full TBE, MBC, Fuel Pump, Intake, Cams, and Cam Gears

Pretty similar, but shifted down, lol. To hit 300/300 at gruppe-s you gotta add headers and meth, even then thats pushing it. And that 300 will come early and still taper past 5.5k. This was with drop in, catless TBE, and the cobb stage 2 map. I was going to get tuned by mike but on pump he said he could prob only pull out 10whp more. The stock STi turbo sucks. Great low end...but sucks up top

Just an example... my Evo dyno'd at 279WHP at Streetwerke on an MD dyno, and shortly after only did 222WHP on EIP's MD.

very true. Every dyno can be manipulated to read high/low. I think in general, MDs and DDs read lower than all others, but there are exceptions to every rule

For the most part, I think gruppe-s and EIP read "true". However, raw numbers aren't as important as the delta, which is why baselines are always needed. Next to the delta, of course are track times
